i bought an item on ebay 2 nights ago it said if you wanted the item to hit the paypal instant pay button and you could automatically buy the item, I did and it took me to paypal i paid for the item and it was a done deal. this was a dutch auction they still had several left. was this legal as per ebays standards? It did not register me as a bidder did ebay get their commission- i did not mean to cheat them but just hit the darn button and it all happened very quickly could someone explain this process to me-- does it work the same way with billpoint? thanks !!!

No, it wasn't legal per eBay's standards, and no they won't get their commission. What you basically did was purchased the item "off of eBay" - which means you won't be able to leave feedback for the seller, and can't file a fraud report or insurance claim if you don't receive the item (don't worry too much about not receiving the item; odds are that you will).
This has nothing to do, really, with PayPal or Billpoint. No seller should put up an auction and say in the description, "If you want this item but don't want to bid, do this ...". Next month, when the Buy It Now option starts, he will be able to do that "legally." But you should report the seller to eBay now so he can be informed of his policy violation; maybe he doesn't realize he's putting his account at risk by doing this.
