Yahoo's response to my email was lightening fast. I didn't call though because I figured the problem out myself. Paypal's phone number is unlisted.
Even sellers who offer Paypal should be linking to Yahoo! PayDirect in their ads as an alternative payment service.

I do link my auctions to Paydirect. But I also link them to Paypal. About 80% of my customers use Paypal and so far only 2 customers have used PayDirect. Never had a problem with either one.

I didn't know Paypal published their number. They sent me some threatening emails a while back, asking for proof that I had mailed a package. The buyer refused to fill out an insurance claim so I guess they dropped it. I closed my Paypal account but had to reopen it because I've got payments coming in from auctions that ended over a month ago.
Definitely trying to get going with PayDirect. A lot of customers have paid that way. One said it was easier than Paypal. Another said it was inconvenient. PayDircct is easy for the seller. You can view your payment history. Each transaction has its own page and the seller can accept money very easily. The money goes back to your credit card. (You don't have to provide your bank account number.) Overall Yahoo PayDirect is not as refined as Paypal but it is saving me $150 per month.
One other nice free feature is that PayDirect lets you generate a "buy-it" icon for any item. When the user clicks on the icon, they are taken directly to Yahoo! PayDirect with the item description and price already filled in. They only need to enter their credit card info, Very easy for the buyer.

I use PayDirect also, but I've had no takers... how the buyers pay is up to them but I've given them several options.
I got a minor problem with PayDirect... more confusion than a problem really. I added $20.00 to my PayDirect account via my bank account several days ago, the $20 was withdrawn from my bank the day after I initiated the transfer, but is still unavailable for my PayDirect account (okay I'll accept the delay, I'm not worried about that). The part that confuses me is this. My PayDirect limit was $1,000.00. After initiating a transfer of $20.00 to PayDirect from my bank account my limit was decreased to $980.00. I could understand my limit increasing to $1020.00 or even remaining at $1000.00, but I can't understand why it would decrease. This is not a real problem, but it is confusing.
