Hi, where/what is a good source for converting woman's Europen sizes (36, 38, 44, etc) to American sizing (6, 8, 12, etc). I've pulled some stuff off the web, but they are different. I'm also having a problem with a 40 in Italy is not the same as 40 in France. Thanks.

This is a subject close to my heart. My only neg was a retaliatory from a seller that sold me a jacket european size 32 (or maybe it was 42 - I forget) but told me that she was a size 20 and 'it fit her'. It actually was equal to a size 12-14. Still pisses me off.
Anyway, back to the subject. I can't really help you but I remember I once found a table by doing a search on 'european clothing sizes'. But make sure to include measurements in your listing!!! You can also say something like "it's a European size XX which looks like an American size (small/large/whatever) but please go by the measurements."

I think that ASTM (original name American Society for Testing & Materials) has a committee that is working on standardizing the way that sizes are presented on women's clothing. If it is not in draft form you can probably get it from their website ASTM.org. It might take some searching and will cost you about $12.00. Draft standards are not available to non-committee members.
This society works on standards for everything imaginable. I seem to remember that this was one tough nut to crack and it may never come to fruition.
I used to be on one of their technical committees and remember reading minutes from the committee that was working on it but I haven't kept up to date on its progress. Wouldn't it be loverly if there was such a thing. Then I might be able to buy my wife (petite) some clothes for presents.
