In the past few weeks, I've had a few customers that claim I didn't get their e-mail and some that claim they didn't receive mine. I always save dated copies of all my auction related e-mail so I can go back and check. Am I crazy, or is there a problem? I have a bidder who owes me over $400 and hasn't paid. I hesitate to relist his items and file with ebay because of this e-mail thing. Anyone else whit this problem?

I had a bidder emailed me two days ago to ask why I hadn't emailed them on where to send payment. I forwared a copy of the email I had sent two days prior. I have been wondering the same thing.

When I was on AOL I had the problem of people "not receiving" e-mail. When I would check the status of the mail, turns out my e-mails were deleted. On purpose? By accident? I have no idea.

Kidsfeet...I just checked the status of the email I had in question and it shows when I sent it and next to the persons ID it was sent to it has (deleted). Do you know if this means the person that received it deleted it? I usually send email with a return receipt checked if it is an AOL user but this one I forgot to so I couldn't doubt that the person never received it.

Well, I went and checked the status on several emails I had sent and think I answered my own question. It looks as though the person that received it deleted it. LKC19..if the mail was sent to another AOL member you could check the status of the mail but not for mail being sent to the internet email address.

I wish I could help you, but I thought I'd let you know that I've used AOL for 5 or 6 years and have never had a problem with e-mail. Maybe you could check with the message board...Keyword:Members Helping Members. Good Luck!

I never really had non-receiving or mailing problems with AOL email--remarkable considering all the other problems I had with their service.
However, I would have to say that many people who use AOL are not very computer savvy as that's the market they cater to.
For a few extra minutes to set up, and a few less dollars each month, they could be on Earthlink or some other good ISP and have a lot less headaches in the long run.

The people who have headaches with AOL *are* the people who aren't computer savvy. I've been on AOL for years, and I've had very few problems. The few problems I did have were solved fast and easily by AOL's support.
According to their website, Earthlink charges $19.95 per month, plus a setup fee if you don't sign up online. AOL is also $19.95, if you pay for a year in advance. Plus, I'd bet anything that AOL has a lot more features than Earthlink.

AOL is definitely the worse in terms of random email dumping. You don't mention what isp service you have, but if by any chance you have pacbell dsl service, most likely aol is dumping your emails. They did this to me about a year ago and probably cost me around $1500 in sales and 2 negs for failure to communicate. I now route all my emails from my website as aol doesn't appear to block those. They block emails in an effort to cut out spam, but obviously don't do a good job. The worse thing is that you have no way of knowing if the person ever received your email. I have a yahoo account as a backup and would suggest that you use the same as they seem to have no problem going thru. Also be on the lookout for cs.com addresses as well, as you will have the same problem.

I have vary results with aol buyters and my EOA to them some answer fine others will mail wondering my address and what they owe days after I already sent info to them.
I am thinking aol has some email spam program turned on by default new users dont know about that dump email with subject like congrats you are the winner and so on from some types of ISPs .
so its now my policy that I email AOL users a EOA from two different email addresses incase one is blocked usually I will send email from my ISP and from Ebay at about the same time . usually I have no trouble.

In February of 2000, AOL started an "e-mail embargo" against many small ISPs because they allow spam mail. This is why your e-mails are not going through. There are 3 steps that you can take to try to get around this.
****1. Send your message via eBay's option of "mail this auction to a friend".
****2. Set up an alternate e-mail account with a free ISP. Even though Hotmail is notorious for allowing spam, they are Microsoft and as such are not on AOL's List. Just make sure to identify yourself to your other party when you email! I recently switched my selling account from an ISP that was being blocked by AOL to a Hotmail account and have not had any problems since.
****3. If all else fails, pull the user's contact info and give them a call. Bear in mind that when you pull their info, they will also get yours.
***** For those of you who question the validity of the AOL Email Block List, we have had AOL employees come to the Emergency Contact Board and confirm that AOL does indeed have such a policy in place. Many AOL users are unaware that they are not receiving their emails as AOL rejects those emails with no action or notification on the part of the AOL user.

I've experience a lot of problems emailing
aol. Whenever I have a buyer who has a aol
email address I copy and paste the message to
an email from Myauctionwatch.com or another
email account I have explaining the second is
because of problems with aol. A pain, but it
works.

This is very interesting. I am fairly computer/internet savvy, but I have been on AOL for about 4 or 5 years, and eBay for 3 1/2 of those years. I don't remember ever having any kind of persistant email problem.
I wonder if some of the people having email problems might have some parental control blocks on their accounts.

dllewis, As far as I know, when the status shows deleted, the mail was deleted by the recipient, before it was ever even opened. I have done that myself, by repeatedly hitting the delete button, and hitting one too many )
In cases where a bidder's e-mail status showed deleted, I forwarded the first e-mail to the buyer, indicating that the AOL status shows it was deleted, and that it must have been deleted by them in error.
5.0 now has a feature where you can undelete mail deleted within 24 hours.
Good luck!
