Hello to all Bakelite experts. I'm requesting info on what kind of adhesive is good to use for a repair. The item in question is a clock with a break in the bottom. Is SuperGlue (cranoacrylate, I believe) OK? Is there something that's specifically recommended for Bakelite?

Anything of the Super Glue family will work. What you might want to do is go to a Hobby Craft Shop, and ask for their SLOW setting superglue type. Some is 5 seconds, some 10 and 15. Use the 10 seconds (or even 5), because it gives you time to re-align the pieces if they are not perfectly set. Don't put much, as it spreads well. DO NOT USE SOLVENT to clean around the excess; rather, use a razor blade and very, very gently scrape off.

I had pretty godd success with spray contact adhesive. I masked in from the edge and spreyed both sides let it set per the directions and then pressed them together.
Only works if they are easy to align. Once they touch they are really bonded so no mistakes! If they are flat on one side they can be slipped together on a surface as a guide to line them up. I am NOT an expert - just experimented and did it to repair a kitchen appliance I liked and did not want to discard.
