In answer to your question, Yes but No. Lucite was a registered trademark of a plastic, and in it's basic form, it is clear. However, there are MANY different plastics, a lot of which are clear. So, if you have something with what appear to be "clear plastic" handles, there is really no way to know if it is indeed Lucite or polystyrene, ABS, polyethylene, polypropylene or any myriad of others plastics. That comes from my geek side that spent way too many hours in organic chemistry class while in college.
The eBay side of me says that if you really want to be "honest" about your description, just leave it as "clear plastic".

If its older it more then likely can be labeled Lucite if its newer the more likely the plastic use is PET, Lexan or PVC.
Lucite was big in the 60s - 70s even mid and late 50s.
Are "lucite" and "clear plastic" synonomous?
The answer to this is no Many colorfull lucite vases and other items out there.

thanks for the info, guys!
If only Ebay titles allowed for something like "vintage purse with clear plastic/ lucite/ polystyrene/ ABS/ polyethylene/ polypropylene handles, I'd be set.

eh, just list it with those words in the description...serious lucite buyers will know to check the box to search description as well.

Most of these purses are found under Collectibles: Vintage: Clothing: Purses. The solid plastic(lucite?) ones were popular in the 50s. I would put lucite (?) in the title if it is a vintage purse. The question mark notes your concern about the type of plastic:however, we plastic fanatics look for lucite in our searchs.

SAABsister, thanks a million- I definitely appreciate the tips. I am not sure of the actual date of the purse but it is very likely from the 50's. ( I bought it at a church sale from an elderly lady, years ago).
