I just ran across a seller on eBay with 23,078 feedback! I haven't been posting here for awhile, so I don't know if I'm the first to see them or not.

They have an overall 41,372 feedback with 258 Neutrals and 246 Negs.

I think this one was worth mentioning, it really blew my mind!

Notice that she uses ***AOL***. That's right, ***AOL***.

For all the problems that AOL supposedly has, some people probably think it would impossible to run hundreds of auctions per week using AOL. Maybe this will prove to some of you that AOL ain't that bad.

Actually, I've wondered about the AOL thing...

Marie, do you use a special AOL email client, or are you able to manage from regular AOL?

I run about 70 to 80 auctions a week on average and am on AOL exclusivley. The only problem I have ever had with email not getting through was to a pacbell.net address and i even got that one sorted out just fine. I am closing in on 300 positives with one neg, and have been selling steadily since March this year.

amalgamated2000,

I've run over 3500 auctions using AOL (and AOL e-mail). I haven't had a single problem with AOL e-mail in about 4 years.

Yes, we are very very happy with AOL, although our dial up connections are through another ISP. Going this route we pay just $9.95/month for unlimited AOL use, and, as you can imagine, we certainly get our money's worth.

We have had no problems to speak of with AOL email, other than what seems to be a semi-consistent inability to get emails into hotmail.com addresses (which is probably OK, because they're usually lousy customers anyway, right? Well, right?)

I edited my first message to include the @aol in the user's I.D.

I thought that might some of you going.

BTW: I use AOL with my digital hookup and have never had a problem with the email, except with the @Home addresses. It's not AOL's fault though, @Home is still having problems with their emails for over a month now.

This is incredible, approximately 2 months ago this seller had 11,500 FB and now he has 23 thousands, and checking with his feedback he mad those 23 thousands only in the past 6 months, and 41,395 since he began. I think buyers want to show that big number in their profiles.

What in the world could you possibly sell that could get you feedback that high?

Duh! I just looked at the user ID and figured out what he is selling. That's a heck of a lot of CD's though!

Hello Big World,

I use AOL as a SPAM block. I get very little SPAM. I used my real business email (.com) address in the fine print on my auction listing last month and started to get that crappy spam immediately all stemming from the address I placed on the auction page... yuck. I belive AOL actively kicks back big batches of SPAM mail that is sent their way... no way for me to do this... no complaints. Wish the email program was better though.

I notice in their description it is stated that the items will be shipped before receiving payment if the buyer has more than 10 feedbacks. Marie trusts the buyer will send payment at the same time.

Keep in mind that AOL is now breaking up Time Warner in order to do the buy thing and everything could change in the weeks ahead.

RE AOL & Spam - I get PAGES of SPAM via AOL - the worse of the 3 ISP's I use.

I know, I know, you can turn them in to AOL, but at the rate I get the junk on AOL, that's all I'd have time to do.

I only use AOL to visit their doggie board, and the Usenet News Groups - so I don't even surf the WWW via AOL. I have no idea why I get so much junk mail on AOL.

My PROBLEM with AOL mail, is when my customers write me FROM AOL, they don't remember to send the full e-mail, apparently it isn't automatic as it can be with Outlook Express, and I am forever getting e-mail with no reference e-mail and have no idea what the person is talking about.

I don't dislike AOL, just hate to get e-mail from them because of the lack of attached e-mail they are replying to - and their horrid spam problem.

Regarding 23,000 feedback - with the items we sell I'd have to have 10 employees to pack/ship that many items.

jwpc,

The reason you are getting so much spam is because you are posting newsgroup messages (I assume). That is probably the #1 reason that people get spam. If I were you, I'd change your e-mail address and then set your newsgroup preferences so that your e-mail address has "NOSPAM" after it. Mine is "[email protected]". Doing this will prevent spam almost completely (at least it has for me).

The reason for a problem between AOL and Hotmail may stem from squabbles between MS and AOL. The easy answer is to use Yahoo or Hotmail as a secondary form of alerting customers when the email doesn't shoot through rezgardless of ISP. Yahoo rarely seems to have any problems.

Shame that .01 cds never replies to the neutral/negative feedback.

Pictures would be nice... guess that would slow things down a fair bit.

What I find kinda funky about them is that I view feedback at the 25-per-page setting, which is more than sufficient for most eBayers; with them, though, I'd have to look through 1,680!! pages of feedback

Another interesting point: out of their 246 negs, only 186 are from unique users? How many times must you neg someone before you stop dealing with them?

But another amazing way to look at the 246 negs: can you imagine having that many negs, and having them represent on ONE percent of your composite feeback, and only HALF of a percent of your total feedback.

Pretty incredible...

I would assume that of the 186 different users, some of them bought two+ CDs at the same time and then left two+ negs. I seriously doubt anyone would leave a neg for someone and then buy from them again at a later date.

I was just shopping around and came across another guy that's trying to profit off of Marie's success and good reputation. He's using the same title search terms as her and starting most, but not all, of his auctions at the same price. Nothing wrong with it, I guess, but I hate it when people do things like that.

Guess the RIAA had a hidden agenda aganst Marie. And failed miserably.

I am sure they are not burned CDs. This user should be given credit for hard work and a good business model - by the way Jereth who posted earlier is the proprietor. Having worked for Universal and having a family member as an executive at Warner Brothers, I think I could give an educated guess on how they are obtaining their inventory. Thus, I find it more amazing that noone has duplicated their business model rather than the fact that they have over 20,000 feedback.
