Which is best, for claritiy's sake, when taking photos of large items?

To get close and zoom out, or move away and zoom in?

TIA

Julesy, either way, I would think

But on larger items, more than one pic is better. Its good to have closeups on particular areas of the item, that you want to be shown; the brand name, any important feature etc, or different angles, depending what it is.

On even numbered days, I get in & zoom out. On odd numbered days, I get out & zoom in.

Except during a leap year when I reverse the process.

From a distance is clearer. Then, take a couple close-up shots or more, of specific areas of interest. Just my opinion, since I do not own a digital camera. But thats what I do with my manual 35mm SLR.

If you are close with a wide angle...or zoomed out...you can get bulging in the middle and rounding at the corners. This is a kind of distortion that lenses...even the good ones...are prone to.
Zooming in from far away compresses items, so they might look flatter than you like.
But all in all zooming in from far away can give you one advantage: if you have an ugly background, move the item away from it and then shoot, if you work it right, you can have your item isolated from the background and it will look very nice.

(of course manual overides are nice...er...sorry I don't know that camera
!)
