I have a payment here that I can't identify or put with any item. Gave me no info. The person sent a mo but also included some cash and there was a whole in the envelope. I think some of the change fell out so I can't identify it by amount. I have decided it could be any one of 3 items. Of course I do have a name and address. Should I get contact info on these three people to match up the name. Won't the other people wonder why I got their contact info? And if I should, where do I go to do that? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I get about five of these every week.. I try calling them, if I can't, I wait until I get a "Where is my item?" note...Then I match them up, and send a photo copy of both the payment and envelope (showing no item ID).
The buyers always understand, it is their mistake...

You may want to send a brief e-mail to the three possibles and ask them for the status of the transaction. One or all three will respond using their real name and your mystery will be solved.
In your first e-mail to them do not say that you are trying to identify a payment. It might worry them needlessly, plus the query might serve as a reminder for them to make their payment if they have not already done so.

I just call information in the city the payment came from. Usually the person is listed. (Last year I sent three notes via Snail Mail, none responded, the money orders and envelopes have been on my desk ever since)

About a week ago I received a laserdisc I never ordered. I'm guessing that it was sent by an ebay seller, but I'm not certain. Maybe the payment you received is from someone who never bid on one of your auctions. LOL
By any chance, did the payment come from New York City?
