I just received an e-mail that someone sent me money through paypal.
I am not a member, neither did I plan to sign up with all their problems.(I am in Canada).

Here is what the buyer wrote:
Sorry to go this route, but I refuse to pay $5.00 to send you money thru bidpay

I accept M.O., cash, even checks (if someone asks, otherwise not offered).

How do I get my money now from Paypal?

This has only happened to me 2 to 3 times. Each time I write to the buyer saying that "I do not accept pay pal, nor will I in the future, that is why it is not seen anywhere in any of my auctions." Then I list all of my other payment options. Only one person has become a deadbeat because of this.
Good luck.
.
p.s. This way the buyer can get their money back from Pay Pal, and I do not have to deal with Pay Pal, in any way.

I just checked the bidders feedback and now he is NARU'd, he was not at end of auction 2 days ago. If I refuse Paypal will I see my money?

The only way to get your money from PayPal is to sign up with them. It might be best, however, to just write to the bidder and re-state the payment methods you already accept, and let them know that PayPal is not an option.

edited to add...

Sorry- I didn't see your last post. Without asking, there's no way to know why they were NARU'd. Without PayPal, you might get paid, you might not.

Would PayPal charge me to get my money from them or how does it work?
Going through different threads here I always read about fees.

By the way I just e-mailed the buyer and told him my other payment options and asked him which one he rather prefers other then PayPal.

Once you sign up, I believe there should be no charge to get your money (the first $500 you receive). Their TOU changes frequently, so I'm not making any promises, though. Here is a link to their help page- you can check them out if you like.

Sign up, get your money and have it transfered or have them send you a check. If your not over 500.00 theres no charge for a personal account. It may be wise to have an account just for situations like this, where all other payment methods fail. Just an idea, you dont have to list it in your payment options, but you may want to send a payment at some point also. Sounds to me you better get your money and run with this one! Accept the payment before he cancels it!
Hold off shipment until the payment moves from pending to completed and your tranfer or check is completed also.

Out of curiosity I did what you suggested: I signed up, but have not given them my CC yet.
Guess what: They charge an INTERNATIONAL CURRENCY FEE.
Paypal charges a fee when curency is converted to or from US Dollars. This occurs when you send money from or withdraw money to an international Credit or Debit Card. The current Fee is 2,6% of the amount plus $0.30 per transaction.

So this thing would cost me something.

To avoid exchange rates I opened an american account as soon as I started selling.

But my CC obviously deals in CAN $ and Paypal would convert the money into Canadian $.

If the amount is minimal, I would suggest that you just cancel the transaction. There is no way to know why the bidder was NARU'd. If he was involved with fraud in any way, accepting a payment through PayPal can open you up to a big pile of hassle.

You can say that again. If there's any doubt, just check out the AuctionWatch.com Partner Services forum.

rxo120 .... I'm also in Canada, and have had this happen a few times. Simply tell the high bidder that PayPal is not an option, period, end of story.

Thank you very much to all of you;I sure appreciate all of your input.

I went and closed my (not activated account- No CC information)Paypal account and according to them I can not reopen this account or open any other account. As if I wanted to.

The buyer has not given me an answer about the other payment options as of yet.

How long do I have to wait before contacting the second bidder, or can I contact them already and tell them they might get this item if I do not hear anything from the other buyer?

How would I go about cancelling that buyers transaction after the auction has ended already?

Update:

The buyer has just cancelled his PayPal payment, but has not contacted me.

Since the bidder is now NARU, simply send him an e-mail stating that the transaction is null and void. Then offer to your second highest bidder. If he is NARU he will not be able to leave you feedback.

You can offer the item to the 2nd highest bidder right now since the high bidder is NARU.

I would offer it to the runner up bidder ASAP, forget about the NARU bidder. Also, make sure to file for your final value fees.
Any bidder that *attempts* to cram PayPal down my throat isn't worth the effort of dealing with.

Thank you very much.

I just contacted the 2nd bidder and can now only hope for the best.

Still no answer from the winning bidder. He is at his computer but obviously only had time to cancel his payment and not to reply to me.

I love this board there is always help or sometimes just an open ear when someone needs help; most of the time I am just reading threads and put my 2 cents in when I really know what I am talking about or know my little bit of input might help. I am sure learning a lot here.

So, thanks again to everybody that is so willing to help others (and a lot of times even without tearing them from limp to limp). [ edited by rxo120 on Nov 14, 2000 11:39 AM ]

wow, what do I do now?

the 2nd bidder is still interested and will mail a M.O. by tomorrow.

The winning bidder just e-mailed me that he will have to wait to get his money back from Paypal ( 3-4 days)and that he then will mail me a M.O.next week.

rxo120~~ Since the 1st bidder is NARU, tell them that the transaction is null and void.

Tell them you do not do business with non-registered users.

I can not give this bidder feedback because he is NARU'd.
I guess I will tell him that the transaction is null and void and tell the 2nd bidder to go ahead.
