Some time ago one of my buyers sent me cash.
It is not in my TOS, but sometimes people send it ( mostly from overseas ).
He asked about that, I said OK.
A long time ago he won my auction, sent me cash by registered mail ( on his risk I said then) and I got it.
This time I didn't get it, he asked to wait
and after 1 month ( usually it takes 7-10 days ) I sent e-mail, asking what he is going to do and that registered mail can
be traced. He didn't answer.
BTW, he had a few non-positive feedbacks for
non-payment on the beginning of his eBay career.
I sent another e-mail, urgent, saying that 45 day deadline is approaching and I will have to file NPB form.
He didn't answer again, so I filed NPB.
A week later, suddenly I receive e-mail from him, saying "sorry", my computer was broken, just got a new one and can answer e-mail.
All this time he was bidding on eBay and even won an item.
He says that because it looks like the payment was lost he will send another one by registered mail. I answered, saying I regret
that his first letter was lost.
5 days later I receive e-mail, where he tells me, that he has a friend in my city,
so we can meet and finish the transaction.
He asked my phone number.
I answered yesterday, that it would be OK, he will not pay postage, only I prefer to deal with e-mails.
He didn't answer today and I already wanted
to send e-mail with deadline, etc.,
but stopped and began to think about that.
Maybe I am pressing too hard?
Of course, if he would be a deadbeat, such
reaction after more than 1.5 month will be
right, but if his is not?
I really don't know, if he sent the payment.
For now, I decided to wait until tomorrow.
What do you think about that?

I bet he never sent it. I recently had a bidder where I had to send her my address THREE times. The last time, I was not as patient. Her response? Gee, well sorry, I did not think it was that big of a deal. HUH?
Anyhow, she says she'll send it right out. 10 days later, I contact her AGAIN, and she says, well I sent cash since you were in such a rush for the money. HELLO!!! It was already 15 days the day she promised to send it. She asks me to wait until Monday, and if I do not get it, she'll send a money order. No complaints that her cash was lost.
Come Monday, nothing, of course. Tues, she says she sent a check and to hold it as long as I need to.
Thurs, I do, indeed, receive a check. With a note saying "sorry this is so late". Uh...thought she sent cash. LOL Guess she forgot she told me that.
Oh, brother.
I would not meet his friend. Of course, I am a female, and suspicious of meeting strangers like that. I would tell him you are filing a NPBA, and do so. He'll have 10 days to get you the money before the final fee request, and the black mark on his record.
My experience in the past has shown that when it "was sent" and "lost in the mail" it is ALWAYS cash or a money order, which is hard to trace. I have YET to have a bidder tell me they sent a check that never got here.

kidsfeet,
Thanks for your opinion.
Yes, changing the method of payment looks very similar.
I already filed NPBA and 10 days passed I think. I will not wait for his mail anymore.
I can meet his friend ( I said near subway station), this guy is not so bad to suspect something, I dealt with him once in the past, but it looks like another way to drag the deal. Anyway I will not give him my info,
e-mail is really enough.
If I will not hear from him tomorrow, I'll
just file for FVF rebate.
