I feel for you. Would it really be any different had this person been in the US though? The only difference I can see is that you might have found out the check bounced a little sooner.

Sorry to hear you got screwed by a Canuck.
You can bet that all future Canadian orders will require payment by INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDER.
Sorry, I don't quite get that comment? I've had 1 check bounce by an American,[out of several hundred] should I now require International MO's from all U.S. buyers?
As far as check clearing, a US check sent by a US customer could come back NSF after 4-5 weeks as well. You might want to consider accepting MO's only. Of course many MO's can also have stop payments put on them, so perhaps *cash only* would be the best way to go?

If the RCMP tells you she has no money then any other route will cost you time and aggrevation, but even if you got a small claims court order, no money is no money.
Only other thought is to complain to her ISP that she is using them for fraud. Probably won't help.
Finally, you might consider writing the RCMP and asking them to let you know if anything useful develops with this gal. Again, not likely to bring results.
In future one might be particularly careful with anyone who isn't registered with eBay. No feedback to check.

Reddeer: Good Morning. Of course you are right. One bad check should not indite the entire population of a country.
