I listed a fragile item I had gotten at basically no cost on eBay (it was a raffle prize).

Sold the item, packed it as best as I could and sent it. I didn't use insurance

Buyer reported the item broken.

I am trying to get another one, but may not be able to. I would have to purchase it from someone else (not via eBay) and have it shipped, again risking the possibility of breakage in shipment. (I would see if I could have it sent directly to my seller however).

I didn't deposit the buyer's money order yet.

As I am going away on Saturday for about a week, I would like to settle this quickly -- would it be best to just return the money order with an apology. Currently I told the buyer I am looking for another one and would write back shortly.

Advice?

ask the buyer to return the item to you for a refund. shipping very fragile items is risky enough, but going without insurance is asking for trouble.
