AARRRGGHHH...
This auction closed on the 15th. I did EOA notice then. Sent out duplicate on 18th (with header of: Since I haven't heard from you, thought I'd send this again.) E-mailed today that I needed to hear something from them. This is the e-mail I received from them a few minutes ago.
Ohhh sorry. I thought I had already sent a response to you. As I was
assembling my XXXXXX, I discovered that I already have this piece. I will
not be purchasing it. This is the first mistake I have made of this nature,
I hope you will be understanding.
Sorry for the inconvenience
XXXXX
I'm really irritated that she A) waited this long to tell me, and B) it took three e-mails to her to find this out.
I had a scathing reply ready to go, but deleted it. What would you do?

It's probably very theraputic to write a scathing reply - just don't send it. Sleep on it for 24 hours, then proceed with eBay's messy fee refund procedure. A sincere email to the deadbeat, stating just the facts and why you had to do this, might avert a negative.

This has happened to me occasionally. I send a polite email explaining that paying for their bid isn't supposed to be optional, and that ebay has strict rules governing non-paying bidders.
I give them a link to ebay's NPB policy, explain that this is the only way I can recoup my fees, and then let them decide.
Most decide to pay up. The ones who don't have no reason to give me a neg since it was their call.

If you do decide to turn this person into eBay, make sure that you copy a quote of the rule(s) that this buyer is breaking, as well as the URL to the page where it sits.
Of course, eBay will return the reply that they don't get involved in disputes between buyers and sellers, even though you've shoved their our rules right in their face. Oh, well.
Personally, I don't believe nearly anything I hear from late-paying customers anymore. When the paymenbt is late - for whatever reason, I start to file for the FVF refund anyway. If payment arrives before I can blacken their record, then they end up with a Neutral feedback. Gosh - I'm such a hardass!

Sorry doesn't cut it. I'd tell the bidder that they can:
1. Buy the item as per eBay regulations.
or
2. Pay all your fees for the auction in full immediately.
Failure to do either will result in NPB and FVF credit and negative feedback. (I'd leave the latter out of any discussion--just do it even if it means retaliation. Bidders know the rules or they can learn them the hard way.)

Bend over backwards...jump through hoops...
send a sweet apology and tell her to enjoy jerking a bunch MORE people around with her time on Ebay.
~~GOD~~ why must we continue to be held hostage by the almighty negative? Not to mention that it costs us money and time with these deadbeats.
There are customers who get away with this ALL the time.
As long as we CONTINUE to look the other way...they always will.

I've heard this one more than I would like to recount, and I am in complete argreement as to the aggravation, but, if in retail, you know they might just return the item if they had bought it in person. Remind them that a bid is a binding contract, etc, etc, then file for your fee credits. It's a pain, but it is the cost of doing business. We can't force people to complete deals. Meredith

This happened to me. After emailing me for dimensions on my widget..buyer ended up high bidder. After auction was over buyer emailed me to say that he already had a widget with these dimensions and would not be purchasing the widget. He had bid before asking the dimensions. He then said, I am sure you will understand since neither one of us would want negative feedback. I am to assume we have come to an agreement. Basically he was threatening negative feedback to me for his mistake. T'd me off but I guess we have come to an agreement....
