Seems kind of slow for me this week, when I thought it would be otherwise. Is this a bad week to have sales up with people traveling maybe?????

I'm a little nervous because I have lots of items with no hits. They don't close until early next week, though, so I am sitting tight. It's very quiet today. I had more buyers [on Amazon, etc] on T-day than today. Guess folks are at the mall!

I thought more folks would be shopping over the actual holiday, but I didn't see any activity at all. I was running something like 25 items and only one got a bid all day long. I wasn't hugely surprised, but I thought there might be some bidders in the afternoon after the turkey-fest. Since last night things have picked up a bit, but it's far from what it was last week at this time. I believe most people who are shopping are shopping out of the house today---I went to the post office and noticed there was a ton of traffic everywhere.

This is my third year with eBay. I sell antiques and collectibles. The season runs from September through Thanksgiving day, then picks up in late January early February and runs strong through late April early May. If it snows during the Feb.-May season, sales are much stronger, because people are holed up with their computers.
I've been around 5+ years and your assessment is perfect. I sell in many categories, and you called it almost perfect, although we do do a good Christmas business. But January through April are great - AND as you said the worse the weather January through April, the better the sales!
I am up and running on both eBay (limited number of items all BIN auctions) and a couple of hundred on Yahoo. Sales the last few days are relative moderate, many people are out of town, others are taking advantage of the wild mall prices, but soon they get tired and go back on line, and those out of town return in a couple of days and start buying again also.
BUT, our experience is as yours, we do more from January to April than the Christmas shopping time, but we have our items up and running to get what on line buyers are out there. I can't complain, we have been so blessed, Monday there will be three of us packing trying to catch up with the orders.
Our large web site, seems to follow about like the auction in sales.

I've had quite a few hits, and a lot of bids, even on Thanksgiving day. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

I agree too. Last Feb & March my sales were gangbusters. Since then, it's slower but steady.
Got some decent bids on Thanksgiving day and Friday too, but it's a bit slow for me right now. Also, I have several auctions with no bids, and I've had more than normal no-sales lately. However, I've been trying to sell everything from A to Z lately, and some of it I don't have much experience with so I don't know what to expect. Two weeks ago people were bidding fast and furious on my auctions, now it's slowed down some. Up and down, but still better than any other way of selling, IMO.

I actually did fairly well with auctions ending last night and have a few more that are going to end on Sunday that have many bids.

I primarily sell new toys and video games, and have done better over the past few days than I have in months. I guess people are starting to Christmas shop!

I'm with you, danilynn. My average hit:bid ratio is 4:1, which is about 2x better than last month. With a couple hours to go, everything but 1 item has bids, most of which were placed at least 2 days ago.

Last year I did well with auctions that ended the day after Thanksgiving. This year I listed several that end this week. I have bids on all of them. Thanking my lucky stars as it has been SLOW for me the past several weeks. Something I have come here to complain about actually.

This has answered many of my questions! I was wondering if people started worrying about whether their item will arrive in time to repack and mail off at this time of the year. Items I placed 10 days ago and are ready to close have bids, but items placed this past week are just sitting there... Hmmm maybe a good time to do a little personal shopping - LOL

I have had the best bidding and selling in more than 6 months. Everything I have put up has been bid on and bid much higher than I imagined it would reach.
