I listed a game called "Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective" on eBay 2 days ago. I thought is was not yet indexed in the Title Search. The reason is that if I search eBay with my title as the keywords, it does not show up in the results.
BUT, after different tries, I found out that the problem is with the word "detective". eBay seems to reject results with this word. All this of course without any explanations.
Is it only me? If not, are there any other words "banned" by eBay so that I do not waste precious title space with wasted words?
Thanks for your help.

Ok, I found over 5,000 items under "detective" and about 13 under "Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detectives." So I don't think there is a *ban* on the the word.

Well, the mystery thickens...
MY title search definitively gives the result" Sorry, we couldn't find any items for "detective".
Is it again because my browser is set to French as the primary language and French laws precludes French citizens to view detective related items???
Just to be clear. My item title DOES include the word detective, and as bobbysoxer says, there are many other items with the word in the title. BUT it seems that I am NOT allowed to look at them!
Why is that?
Weird...

I think the French Government has a law prohibiting "English" words. Could this be your problem?

detective is also the French word for detective
Another word with no search results is spy. Very unlikely.
At least, there seems to be a theme here...

Why not just use "Sherlock Holmes" and leave off detective? You know what category it is in and there only 6 games showing now, inculding yours.
I am curious though, where did you get your picture? You state you don't have the box.

you might want to try putting the little symbol over the first e for the French word. The French browser may not be picking it up because it is written as an "English" word rather than written as a "French" word.
Edited to write: "Détective" is the French spelling.

Did you search the description as well?
For detective I found 5538 for spay I found 4649. Now the question is what if we go to the French eBay?

The answers are zero for both.
Also I have been using the uk site to access my auctions from time to time when the usa site has been down. I discovered (about a month ago) that when I clicked onto my feedback I didn't find my "verified" check. It is on my usa site but not on the uk site. Even though I would like to see the verification check mark symbol on the auction page, at least it should be on the other countries feedback sites.
Maybe there is a glinch in the system that prevents some of this.
Edited to say that for the verification symbol only the usa, australia and germany sites include the symbol on the feedback page.

The picture is a scan of the Clue Book.
Now, on the keyword subject. The objective behind the words you put in a title is that you want to be sure that your item will come up with their search and people looking for a specific item will use specific keywords.
In this case, Sherlock Holmes will bring too many unrelated items (848). I agree with you that if you search in a specific category, then it is enough. But is it really what buyers do? How many will search directly from the Home Page for instance? And what if someone knows the exact title of the game (consulting detective) and I leave out the word detective than my competitors items will show up but not mine.
bobbysoxer
I do not want people in France to find the item specifically. If I would put in "détective" then people in the United States looking for detective would NOT find it.
to both of you
I want to thank you for looking into this. Although it does not solve the mystery (as to why I am the only one affected by this), at least now I know that buyers will be able to find my items. This was my major concern when I started this thread. Now I am somewhat relieved.
Edited for spelling
