I've rarely ever sold printed matter and I just sold some magazines that weigh 4 pounds. Can these go book rate? What are the requirements? Can I still put a receipt in the box? Thanx in advance.

Angela

Angela,

Anything with advertisements in them cannot go book rate. Although my local post office told me that 'collectible' magazines can be shipped book rate. If you go to their web site, it doesn't agree with my local post office.

Go figure, huh?

Hope this helped.

Jane

Angela, they can be sent as Bound Printed Matter, which is still a good deal, but not as cheap as Book Rate.

I believe you can inclose a receipt, just no personal message. I think most sellers do.

Maybe someone else knows more about that . . .?

The post office has eliminated the "book rate" term.It is now "special standard mail"and if your magazines are packaged can ship this way

Angela - According to the USPS site, Special Standard Mail includes books, computer software, records, tapes, sheet music, and medical material sent to doctors, hospitals, and medical schools.

Bound Printed Matter is advertising, promotional, directory, or editorial material.

A two-pound package will cost about .60 more to send as Bound Printed Matter.

Incidentally, the USPS is planning to change the name of Special Standard Mail to "Media Mail".

Well I appreciate you all taking the time out to answer me. I finally just quoted the high bidder book rate anyway and told her if it was more, just to consider it a Christmas present.

Angela......I have sent many magazines at book rate....as long as there is no correspondance going in the envelope with it and it must be atleast 63 pages or more...check with your local post office

Ps: Just slip a receipt inside but don't tell.

I disagree that Bound Printer Matter is more expensive than bookrate. My postmaster checks both ways for the books I ship: sometimes bookrate is cheaper, sometimes bound printed matter. I think one factor is that bookrate is divided by pound intervals while bound printed matter is divided by half pounds. So a one and a half pound package would pay a one and a half pound bound printed matter rate and a two pound bookrate.
