I had auctions running this weekend with the eBay buy it now option, but now I am wondering if it is such a good idea. I had a bidder take the buy it now option. When he contacted me he used the eBay id email address and gave his name. He paid by paypal using the name he gave me but a different email address and wanted the item shipped to a different name in Belarus in the former Soviet block. At this point I wanted no part of the deal and returned the paypal payment, but when I tried to contact him at the email address used for paypal the email was returned with a name not known message. So then I go to eBay and pull up the contact information and I get a third name! I contacted paypal, safeharbor, and sent a message to the powerseller service desk at eBay. The problem is that you cannot cancel a bid on a closed auction. This leaves you open to a negative from someone who is quite possibly trying to run some kind of scam.

The situation would have been identical, would it not, if he had bid and won?
