I need some advice, here is how the story goes.

1. I had an auction end during the last week of October. The auction clearly stated the shipping costs, that payment must be received within 14 days of it's close and that detailed after auction procedures that I follow (including when I send e-mails to notify if payment has been received, a e-mail stating the amount owed etc. and my mailing address etc.)

2. Within hours of the close I sent an e-mail to the winner stating the amount he owes, payment options, when payment must be received by and my address.

3. He e-mailed me the next day and asked how much he owed. I resent the information.

4. Did not hear from him for 5 days so I resent the info. and stated that he should respond so I know he got it (I did this from 2 e-mail addresses)

5. 14 day payment period was up. Sent an e-mail to him stating it has not been received and politely asked him if he sent it or not so I can hold the item.

6. 3 days later filed a NPB.

7. Waited 12 days - no response so I filed for a fee refund.

8. Today he e-mails me and asks if I have received his check yet as according to his records it has not been cashed. He says he sent it on Nov 12 (well past the 14 day payment period).

Do I tell this guy to shove it (not in those words) and risk a negative or do I believe him and try to work it out with him (I still have the dupicates of the same item).

Thanks,

Chris

Chris...That's a tough call! The person knew payment was sent late, so should have at least sent a MONEY ORDER, so you do not have to worry about check bouncing.

What is his feedback like? If good, you might want to wait another day or so, then hold off shipping till check hs cleared, plus a few days, just in case. Or, tell him to cancel check and send M.O. Good luck.

I am a little short of patience this morning, as I just got 2 deadbeats One took off on vacation, without confirming my EOA asking for her address. She now calls me rude because I EMAILED HER to know where we stood with that purchase? and also left her a phone message?

And just now, another just writes that she has "a family emergency"....which is spelt b-u-y-e-r-'s r-e-m-o-r-s-e.

You can always sell to the bidder if you want. A lot of bidders are...well... clueless as to following through. I am starting to be more relaxed in my dealings with them, but I don't chase anymore. If I don't hear from them I file an NPB on day seven and get my credit 10 days later.

Thanks for the advice

The guy has a feedback of 0 (no positives or negatives e.g a newbie).

Since I already have my money back from eBay I guess I'm not risking too much if I sell it to him.

I'll e-mail him again and state for him to send a money order instead so I won't have to worry about a bounced check.

Thanks again,

Chris

I would relax if he was a newbie. My problem is similar, but with an experienced buyer with 50+ positive feedbacks. He won't make payment and won't return e-mail. I guess I'll be patient, but damn, how much time does it take to fire off an e-mail?

I would give him just what he deserves. A Negative. Then he will have the -1 feedback he should have so other sellers will see it and have the option of cancelling his bid so they don't have to go through the same thing.

Based on something which just now happened, it would seem that a few bidders do not read the EOA sent by Ebay, and have no concept of how much time should elapse between EOA and contact.

Apparently, one of my bidders went away on vacation, without confirming EOA; I Emailed 3 times and left a phone message, explaining the possible consequences...She was totally flabagasted (spelling???) on how I found her phone number...So, it tells me that many never visit the Site map on Ebay, to learn the ins-and-outs of bidding/selling.

To my (happy) surprise, she just contacted me, saying that payment is on it's way, as of today. She apparently did not realize that not confirming can cause a problem. So, we better make sure to mention in our listings that Confirmation would be greatly appreciated...
