I got an email from someone asking me to sell my item "off-auction". They said if I didn't agree they would watch the item and contact me after it was over.

I replied that I couldn't (wouldn't) end the auction and would consider a fixed price if the item didnt' sell. I used the reply button to respond.

The "mail daemon" notified me that my return message was undeliverable and after reading through all the mail jargon I saw that the recipient was blacklisted by their ISP and I should contact my administrator.

I can guess what blacklisted means but what should I watch out for?

Thanks

What Blacklisted means is an expression used primarily in industry decades ago to bar certain people from getting jobs. People who tried to start unions mostly, but also suspected communists, anarchists, or other "trouble-maker"; e.g. stands up for their rights to the boss, ended up being put on a list that was circulated among the local businesses. This practice was outlawed in every state long ago. Look up the history and rediscover your political views.

As far as ISP's are concerned, when users constantly create accounts for the sole reason is to SPAM people, they get tired of deleteing account after account after account. Eventually, they "blacklist" them to prevent them from obtaining an account at their business.

I have seen a few threads on AW where the after-auction customer is actually a SPAMMER wanting you to confirm your e-mail address; or, is a person who has been NARU'd so many times from eBay that even eBay won't let them come back. Since eBay has so little criteria for becoming a member, anyone unable to become a member is highly suspicious in my mind. I would deal in cash-up-front with that person if I were you.

edited because I accidently hit the Submit button too early

Thanks. I guess I was familiar with the term since I watched the McCarthy hearings while in high school. Wasn't sure how the term made it to the digital age. I will take your advice and be very careful.
