Ok, please humour me whilst I let off a little bit of steam here....!!

Anyone noticed the large number of newbie sellers who have jumped on the Ebay bandwagon recently? You know the type. They think nothing of listing 40-50 auctions with no pictures to speak of. In a way I can understand this - not everyone can afford a digital camera, and whilst scanners are pretty cheap these days, not everyone has one even now.

But let's have a look at some of these auctions. We are not talking about the height of descriptiveness here. Three lines, and two of those are describing the payment methods they DON'T take. Excuse me? Is this person seriously expecting me to bid on this thing without benefit of a picture or any sort of adequate description.....?!! Oh, and what's this at the bottom? PLEASE EMAIL ME FOR A SCAN.

Ok. So you DO have a scanner after all. But the truth is you're too lazy to actually bother scanning the thing until someone shows some interest. I don't wanna have my email program endlessly chewing over the bloat of some massive jpeg you couldn't be bothered to decompress. I wanna see it NOW!!! And meantime you're lolled in front of the TV somewhere waiting for the money to roll in. And the true irony is you'll probably sell your wretched widgets. Seems to me that the hours I spent uploading the pics for my auctions today was just a complete waste of time.........

Thank you for stopping by. Any comments always appreciated as I can read 'em at work tomorrow!! **Off to bed still scratching head**

I've seen plenty of those and passed them by just as quickly. There's a lot of people who don't have a clue how to make a decent scan. You know those people.

They're the ones who post auctions with pictures four feet wide by three feet tall. The ones you have to start being treated for because you now have carpal tunnel syndrome from scrolling across the picture.

Then there's the people using the $99 digital camera from 6 inches and you get this fuzzy white blob. I think that's the impressionist beanie.

There's an awful lot of people who don't have a clue how to take their scan and store it on their own ISP account allocation or use the hosting services such as here at AW.

I can't imagine these people get deluged with requests for their scans. Unless it's something really unique I'm sure they just get lost in the millions of pretty useless auctions that feed the ebay money machine.

I've been selling trading cards on ebay for almost 3 years...the first 2 years I didn't even have a scanner. Earlier this year I started to scan pics of every item I had for sale - I usually list anywhere from 30-400 items per week.

While my descriptions are VERY detailed, I just decided that uploading 100+ pictures every week wasn't worth my time. I don't ask bidders to email for a scan, but will always provide one upon request.

I believe if a seller truly wants to make a sale, he or she will always make time to answer the questions a bidder may have.

Have you come across the ones yet that say didn't get a chance to take a pix but go to Item#--------, it is the same thing and mine is starting off lower. I always wanted to contact the seller who they were refering to but you never know I might get an e mail back to mind my own business.

Josu, I see your point. Dealing in something with that high a volume would be a horrendous task. But, shouldn't you at least post pics of your high-dollar items?

My own personal reaction as a buyer is to not bother reading the description of an auction without a picture unless it's an item I'm very interested in, and it's not readily available elsewhere. I would think that not posting pics would turn away a lot of impulse buyers.

I think that everyone here so far is missing the point: why not point these new Sellers towards AW? Why not invite the guilty party opr parties to this very thread? Then they can learn how to sell on eBay instead of just annoy.

Dear Seller,

In searching through eBay for X-Widget, I came across your auction #0000000000. I notice that you did not include a picture of said widget, but are willing to email me a picture.

Please email me and inform me when you begin to place pictures on your auctions. My email does not handle attachments well, so I will be unable to accept your offer of sending me a picture.

Regretfully, I will be unable to bid on your wonderful widget if you are unable to place a picture in the auction itself.

Good Luck in your future sales,

Sincerely Yours,

Attachment Challenged but Wanting to Bid Buyer

My tolerance is even lower. I back right out of the ones that say "click here to view item".

There are too many image hosting services out there for me to have to play cat and mouse with the picture.

I heard that!

When AW was problems awhile back, I decided to use another image hosting place until AW got the bugs worked out. What a pain! I hated it myself, to have to go to my own auction and then click to go somewhere else to see a picture.

I figured if it bothered me that much...at my own auctions...just imagine how a buyer would feel trying to look at several of my auctions!

I dropped that like a hot potato.
