Ok, here's the story. I've been away from listing for quite some time and just started again so I'm still getting used to the new system here. This is one of my recently closed auctions:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=507321663

When I listed it thru AW, I used a template that had the title on top, pic in the center, and description underneath - which is the way I see it when I pull it up. My mother, on the other hand, says the pic is on the left and she has to scroll over to the side to read the description. She also adds that it shows that way on my sister's computer also. So what's the story?? Different monitor sizes? They both use AOL, is that the problem? Has anyone heard of this? and which way does appear to you?
Help

Well now I'm totally confused and don't know what the heck to do.
Guess I'll sleep on it for now (past 3:00AM here).
Thanks everyone!

17" monitor, no AOL, and I had to scroll.

Edited to add ... When I first saw the title, I thought, boy, that's a question I'd never ask my husband, for fear of a truthful answer! ROFL!

For starters ... teeny white text on a medium grey? blue? background is danged hard to read.

With MSIE, I see the title, then pic to the LEFT, then description under it. With an old version of Netscape, I see the picture to the left, the text underneath.

You should ALWAYS check your auctions templates with several browsers ... they do not all show whgat yours shows, and there is some sort of a glitch in the HTML that apparently the AOL browser can't compensate for, like a tag out of place or unclosed.

Couldn't this be solved if AW used dynamic sizing for their templates? When I use a table in my auctions, I set the width to a percentage, 85% I think, so that if the resolution of the viewers screen is smaller than mine, the table will shrink to fit their viewing area.

If you use a static width, it stays the same no matter what resolution is used. And, it is resolution differences, not monitor size.

Looks fine in Netscape. Too wide in Internet Explorer. AOL uses IExplore, I think. You should refer this one to the AuctionWatch engineers and let them stew for a while. Most folks use IExplore.

15" MONITER IE 5 and I did not have to scroll.

As far as AOL. I would not use them if they paid me $20.00 month !!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the resolution the monitor is set at, not the monitor size! IE, Netscape, and AOL also have differing ways of dealing with the HTML code, and that explains the differences between browsers.

My husband answers that question before it's asked!

Your ad was too wide for my 17 monitor. I think that if AW has a setting
for table percentage, that will solve the problem. Set it, like
Meya suggested, at 85%.

I don't know how AW works, but I think the problem is in the HTML,
involving the table size percentage.

Resolution, resolution, resolution!

On a 17" monitor running 1024x768 it appears fine. On the 14" laptop running 1024x769 it is fine.

There is a problem with it however, and I have yet to find out exactly what it is. If you look at the coding that AW uses, you'll see that they DO use % in their tables. The main table is set at 100% and the table where the pic is, is set at 97%. There's something else wrong.

Well at least the problem isn't forgetting to put a /blockquote at the beginning and a blockquote at the end.

It looks like a table size problem like someone suggested. I didn't have to scroll, but when I shrunk my window a tad, I had to scroll.

It depends totally on the monitor setting. When set at 800x600, I have to scroll. At the 1024x768 setting, it looks terrific.

I haven't seen anything in the AuctionManager software to adjust the width as the writers above have suggested. I would suggest that you check the size of your photos when you scan them. You can adjust them to be less than the 800x600 that most people use and then you don't have to worry about HTML settings.

Does someone know if AuctionManager and AuctionManager Pro have settings to adjust for size? Moderator?

some of the posts on AW have been too wide to read without scanning sideways

The reason for that is that the scrolling posts have a longggg string of text (like maybe a webpage link) with no spaces.

I like Netscape, and that is what I use to do my listings. My DH likes IExplorer, and sure enough, when I pull it up through there I have to scroll. I think the simplest solution for me is to set my AW default so it will shrink the pics for me. (This only happens on my auctions that have large pics.)
BTW, I agree, abacaxi, I think I will look through AW's templates again to find one with more contrast.

Once again, Thanks everybody!

I also think it has something to do with the resolution of your monitor. I'm using IE5 with a 19" monitor set at a 1024x768 resolution. The auction page looks fine to me although the lamp shade photo is located to the left of the center. The title is at the top, then the uncentered photo with the description underneath.

Most folks still use an 800x600 resolution so you should always try to view your auctions with your monitor set at that resolution to see if it's OK. However, I also thing there's something wrong with the tables in your template because I don't think the different resolutions should cause such an extreme problem.

I think it is time that everyone conforms to the standard resolution of 1280x1024.
