Hi Fellow eBayers,

I'm new to all this auction stuff and am low on cash. Sold out most of all the junk I had in my home and a few friends homes. Funds are running a bit low now, so can't buy anything new (or used) to sell.

I'm not asking for a loan or anything like that...just wondering how else I can get more things to sell when I've got no MONEY to speak of!

Maybe consignment selling? Any thoughts on this?

Geez! What's a struggling old bloake like me to do?!

bill- establish a relationship with a local antique shop. get the stuff photographed and scanned and they don't even have to give it to you. just make sure they hold it until the auction is over. ask them for a discount to leave you room to mark it up.

BILL:

I'll try to say this as kind as I can.

In another thread you started, you asked about "where to get items, and what to sell" basically.

NOW, you say that you are a broke bloake, and can't buy nothin anyway.

I think that maybe you should stick to whatever it is that you do well, and though this is only one persons observation, auctions aint it.

Perhaps you could get a job, and save a few bucks, then hit some flea markets to find some small trinkits to resell for a few bits profit.

Geez! You people are a tough crowd! BTW, I do have a job. (Yeah, I'm a dot.com paper millionaire! Options haven't come in yet! Ha! Ha! Ha!) This auction thing is just a hobby for now. Don't want to mortgage my house to make it a success!

I'm interested in any "creative" financing techniques anyone has come up with. Why spend cash when you don't have to!?

1. Go to your local City garbage dump. Start digging.

2. Ruffle through your neighbor’s garbage cans.

3. Late at night, hang out with the local alley cats, see where they go to get stuff!

4. Stand around at a busy intersection with a sign that reads: I Will Auction Your Stuff For $$$

5. Auction Incense

6. Auction T-Shirts

7. Auction socks and soiled underwear.

8. Auction fresh turds or cow dung

9. Auction Prison ID Cards from Computer Hackers

10. Go to K-Mart, buy some stuff, then sell it on eBay for big profits!

or

4. Get some Capital Go to your local home town Bank!

You could always go to the local Goodwill bin (after dark of course) to do your "shopping".

Try to sell hot information, exmple where to get Sony Playstation2, resell that stuff, find for free stuff on the net and sell it. Freebies, etc. Get information that is unsual on eBay.

Might I also recommend that you sell off some of your personal belongings, and invest in one of the "Make 1 trillion overnight on ebay, I did" CDs.

Go to a car dealer, tell the owner that you can sell that car for a determined price, but you will charge a %5 of the total, then sell it on eBay motors within days.

As bad as the ebay magazine was there was an article on your situation. You've maanged to houseclean, Bill. If you didn't or don't have a plan on what to do after this then you might want to reconsider if this is what you should be doing. Simply ridding your home of unwanted items doesn't mean you're suited for the auction world. Planning should have been done a long time before you hit the end of your own items to decide what would happen next.

By far, the biggest reason for failure in a small buisiness is managerial incompetence. (Don't get on me for those words. That's direct from the Small Business Administration.) Making money requires planning, investment and exceptional execution. Part of the reason for the situation you are in is that you didn't keep all or a portion of your earnings for reinvestment into something else. If you're dead broke, then that's probably a good indicator that there wasn't any kind of plan. If that doesn't change don't chase money to buy something or you'll be throwing it away and worse than broke as a result.

"Sold out most of all the junk I had in my home and a few friends homes"

Well, the first thing a business has to do is make sure that they buy new stock out of the profits from selling the old stock. If you spent the money on other things, you are SOL.

Well Bill, what I do is use my Credit Card and churn the amounts so much every month that I don't get hit for interest. Churning meaning that I move money back to the card as fast as I sell what I bought in the first place.

Bill,

I will let you in on a little secret.

You know how everyone likes to make fun of the people digging through trash to find stuff to sell ?

Well, I will tell you for a fact you can make thousands of dollars doing this !

NO JOKE. I have done just this and have made several thousands of dollars on ebay.

Don't get me wrong. You can't go trifling through your neighbors trash cans or driving through neighborhoods on trash day. And stay away from restaurants (that is just nasty !!)

What you do is go to the industrial parts of your town were the big wharehouses are. Computer suppliers, furniture wharehouses, auto parts suppliers, electronic supply wharehouses, etc....

You will be literally amazed at what you will find in their dumpsters. Brand New items you can resell for good money on ebay.

I am not pulling your leg or trying to joke around. I am very serious.

You asked what to do and I am telling you how to do it. All the free merchandise you want is there and will go to the dump or some landfill if you do not get it, so you are not ripping anyone off.

Here is an example :

I went to a computer parts suppliers wharehouse and talked to a guy in the wharehouse. He told me they were relocating and were going to throw away much of their inventory. I went back they days he told me they would start, and sure enough when I got there they had filled the dumpsters (3) up with brand new computer and electronics parts.

I took all I could and here is just some of what I got.

100,000 feet of heat shrink. This is used for electronic repairs and such. I sold lots of 50 feet for $10.00 a lot. Over time I sold it all !!!

You do the math.

I found a dumpster full of brand new unfinished wood frames about 6,500-7,000. I sell 10 for $10.00

Again, you do the math.

I made around $10,000.00 this year alone on stuff I found in dumpsters !!!

If you are smart you will invest the money you make off the dumpster finds and buy merchandise you can sell for more money.

I work for a Big High End Department Store, you would not believe some of the NICE stuff we throw out,and I do mean NICE. Sure most of what we trash is Trash, But we do throw out of lot of NEW merchandise that nobody bought (after a long period of time) and we have No space to store (not that the Higher-ups want to). So we HAVE TO throw it out, employees are NOT allowed to keep it (I suppose it is some kind of write off thingy).

Bill, this is “for your eyes-only”, so I would appreciate it if everyone else would just skip over what follows.

Thank you.

OK. Now Bill, here is what you have to do. Immediately - quit shaving, washing, and indulging in anything that may be construed as personal hygiene. Get yourself a scrap of cardboard – preferably soiled and wrinkled. Write the following message on it:

Unemployed – Hungry –Trailer FIRe
Will worK – Need HeLP
Thank YOU - goD bLeSS

Now get a 5-gallon bucket and a pack of smokes and position yourself at a busy intersection. If you play your cards right you will be rolling in cash offerings and writing auction descriptions by evening!

Good Luck to ya!

ps: please be sure that you don’t intrude on my “lucky” corner”. I’m attempting to raise $6.7 billion for a LBO.
