This is not an original idea. I came across it on AW. I liked it & wonder if it would be suitable on my auctions. If anyone would care to edit I would appreciate it very much, it needs improvement.
Here it is:
Now About Feedback
Since feedback is transactional
I prefer to leave feedback when you, the buyer leave it first. This is not to make sure l receive feedback from you, it is because I will know our business is complete & it is only complete when I know you are happy with your purchase. When you receive your package and all is as expected I hope you will let me know through feedback. I will then do the same.

Personally, I agree with reddeer - I never ask for feedback because it is a voluntary thing. To me, it would be like asking a customer in real life to thank you.

reddear:
I don't care either, I have 385 all pos. & that's enough to assure a potential buyer that I'm Ok to deal with. What I worry about is sometime someone will not be happy & will neg me before I'm given a chance to make things right. I may get negged anyway, but at least I will have a chance to tell my side or even to "politely" neg them back.
I am waiting now for the buyer to leave feedback before I leave mine & feel that they are wondering why I didn't do it first.
On second thought maybe a better place to put this would be in my EOA email.

The only problem with using the feedback system as a means to communicate receipt of items is that many people do not leave feedback after receipt, or do so weeks after the fact. I suspect the reason this is appealing to you is that while you are in My Ebay, you can check your Recent Feedback, without having to do the whole email game. But I say that if you took the effort to get onto My eBay, then you can just as easily find out whether the customer received the items with a breif email. However, you wish to argue that those who would not leave feedback would also not respond to such an inquisitory email--not so. At least, not in my experience.
I agree with one of the previous posts about not soliciting feedback, and would add that feedback should be placed only if you genuinely have an interest in promoting the foundation of our community. Don't play power games with feedback, as many people do, but use it as it ought to be used--as a guide for all potential bidders. One should leave feedback for a buyer or seller according to their performance, and on all auctions. To require receipt of feedback, for any reason, before rating your trading parter, means that you are placing a *condition* on your evaluation of the other person's performance. Implicitly, that condition is "whether or not my trading partner left feedback for me." Whether or not this was your intention, it is implicit in that paragraph.
I recommend stating that, once timely payment is received(if a seller), or once item is recieved as-described in a timely manner(if a buyer) positive feedback will be posted. Then, if the person doesn't leave you feedback, JUST DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!. If you are an honest seller, you don't need to worry about feedback, because you will eventually get it voluntarily. If you are a new seller, concerned about your low feedback, and its implications on your potential bids, I think that a breif statement of your integrity, or willingness to participate in an escrow service(even if at the buyer's cost), should eliminate bidders' concerns. You don't want to force feedback out of people, or even to encourage it with an email, because that means you are undermining the integrity of the system, which relies on the community members sincerity.

This has been discussed many times before and again, MHO is that it isn't over until its over...meaning the buyer got it, is satisfied with it and has the courtesy to let me know either by an email, a feedback or a pidgeon with a message. Then and only then will I leave feedback. Ilearned my lesson by one just out of the chutes that I left her glowing feedback and she negged me because she doesn't believe people can handmake things in china! And not even the courtesy of a email to let me know she had a flea in her knickers! No more. never......

I thank you all for the thought you put into your opinions. It does look like a silly idea & that I am asking for feedback, not so, but it seems that way. My "idea" is now out the window & forgotten. I don't put any terms in my auctions, just a short discription, postage amount & picture. I will keep it that way. Short & friendly.

This is what I e-mail the buyer after receiving payment.
Hi!
Your payment came in the mail today, I will send out the package tomorrow. Positive feedback is already posted, and I would appreciate the same in return when you receive your book.
Thank you again for your bid.
Most of the time it works.

Although I know it's wholly unintentional on your part, to the bidder it does indeed read exactly as abacaxi translated.
posted on December 1, 2000 06:07:04 PM newabacaxi"I will hold your feedback hostage until you leave feedback for me."
YES!!! I applaud abacaxi's translation, I agree 100%. Such terms on a listing would be very uninviting for me. As a seller I leave feedback when I'm paid, I don't think it's reasonable to require a buyer pay and be satisfied before getting feedback. As a buyer I use many different accounts with low feedback, I dare a seller to try and hold feedback as hostage.

Oh dear! Being new to eBay I looked at many auctions to decide what to say on my own and that's where I got the idea that it was OK to say something like "I do leave feedback and look forward to yours." It never occurred to me that it might be bad auction manners. Perhaps it would be best to leave such a comment for an after the auction e-mail. Please comment, will appreciate all views.

I used to say that, followed by "If you are pleased with this transaction, your feedback would be appreciated".
I now stick to my newer, shorter version, and it seems to do well...
******************** Gosh Shosh!

I cannot argue with your reasoning.
hcq got my Harrington's catalog today & ordered The Pride Of Harrington's on line.
Am really looking foward to trying this.

SHOSHANAH,
From the appearance of your feedback whatever you are doing is doing very well!! Thank you for the advice, I shall take heed for future listings.
