Hello everyone I'm new to AW and still kinda new to ebay. I've been reading all the threads here and learning a LOT! (Laughing a lot too.) I am very interested in your opinions on this if you want to take a minute to reply. The background on this - so you know what I am trying to acheive here - is that I am a musician who sells my own recordings on ebay. And I don't mean home demo junk, I mean I have been a professional musician for 20 years now, these are real studio recordings, my own songs, on my own label, with beautiful graphics, shrink wrapped, all brand new, etc. And of course I own the copyrights. (No infringement here.) Being that it is only a 3 song cassette recording, I am happy to sell them for $4.50 each. I listed a lot of these on ebay. My question is this - when someone bids the $4.50, I am happy and ready to sell it. MAYBE someone might possibly bid higher, but I am much more interested in selling in QUANTITY and reaching MORE people with my music - rather than getting more money on one three-song tape, know what I mean? Someone suggested I end my auctions early as soon as the $4.50 is met - but this sounds fishy to me. Why do people end auctions early? Doesn't it mess up the sale? And how does it affect feedback? I don't know, but I had a feeling that would be frowned upon and just plain not look good. What is the "etiquette" here for ending early? Hmmm maybe I should just stick with doing 3 day auctions and just putting more of them up. Any suggestions for this newbie? I would really appreciate the advice!! I am a rocker not a "seller" LOL!! Thanks in advance... Rocker

ditto what Pokey said--put up a bunch of them on a Dutch Auction with the starting bid at $4.50---try a few of them at first to test it out.

Rocker, my advice is this: Get a CD burner and put your stuff on CD. The quality is much better and customers prefer them. Casette tapes are from the stone age. You don't even have to burn the CDs yourself. There are plenty of companies that will dupe CDs at a very low cost. Try KingMedia (sorry I can't post the email addy, the user is an AW member).
Also, if you want to "get the word out," learn about MP3s and upload your songs to the usual sites: Napster, Myplay, Nullsoft, etc.

Thanks everyone - that was some fast feedback... even from you, cranky Zazzie
Twinsoft - yes, the CD burner is next on my list of things to get. OF COURSE cassettes are from the stone age, sheeeesh!!! But back when I was really a starving artist, I got a great deal on the cassettes, had VERY little money, it was either NO recordings or cassette recordings, dig? So don't hurt my damn feelings!! When you're a struggling artist, you do whatever you can, and that was what I could do. And I don't regret it - it has still enabled me to get my music out there. There are even some radio stations left who CAN and WILL play my cassettes. Mostly college radio and stations who support indie artists. At THIS point in time, I am finally working on pre-production for my first full length CD. Whew! About time.
Dutch auctions! YES that is probably the answer. Thank you Pokey and I will check out that url you posted.
Oh okay now just out of curiousity - why DO people end auctions early?? And what are the repercussions? I am not doing it, I am just wondering, trying to learn the ropes here and the ebay ettiquette.
I saw a guy auctioning off dirty stained underwear. Sorry, I just HAD to share that. I could not keep it to myself any longer.

Rocker, sorry if I hurt your feelings. You sound like the sentimental type. Suggestion: donate that old 8-track to Goodwill. Ha! Gotcha.
I found an interesting site. Free music software by a musician/programmer. Try www.analogx.com. Good stuff.
posted on December 5, 2000 10:58:28 PM FREE music software? WHOOO HOOOO!!! Thanks Twin! Yes I am the sentimental type. Didn't ya ever hear that the best songs written are when you're in PAIN?? No wonder I'm having a writer's block lately, I'm too damn happy. NO I DON'T have an old 8 track :P BUT I DO have a TURNTABLE!! And guess where I got it. EBAY HAAH. I have been listening to all my old 70s records again and proud of it. Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Runaways, the Ramones, Blondie... I have not changed my shag haircut since like 1978. Sentimental? Yup yup that's me...

You must be a big fan of That 70's show !!!
There is a store near me that has been there since the 60's----they still have stock on the shelves from every era they have been open....tapered Levi shirts, the ugliest vests in the world, tight tight jeans
I'd love to be able to contact the buyers from that show and go on a shopping trip with them.
Oops---sorry, I rambled off topic. Don't yell at me---cause I'm still cranky

I need a turntable with pitch control because I set the pitch of songs on my old LPs and then record them for practice jam sessions. The last one I found was a Technics. The belt busted after just a few days. Found a Scott with pitch control yesterday for $30 and IT WORKS. YEAH!!! I like Pink Floyd, Beatles, Grateful Dead and other old hippie bands.
