Hi,
I have been away from AW for awhile and just started up again with eBay.I accept regular payment methods and give buyers the option to call our store for V,MC & Discover which many do.Lately I have been recieving a large increase of requests for pay pal.
I havent taken the time to check it out in detail but have seen hundreds of posts at AW which I havent taken the time to read them all. I get the impression its ok but I have heard allot problems from buyers and sellers.
MY QUESTION:
Is there any heavy users of pay pal that would comment on there experience in paying or getting paid.
Thanking You in Advance.

I was a heavy user of paypal and even signed up for the business account. I have never had a real problem personally. But a lot of folks I know have had serious problems. Paypal has acted in an irresponsible, heavy-handed way, shutting down accounts without warning or explanation, letting customers continue to pay into frozen accounts so that they cant get the money, nor can the seller refund. I think it's going to take a court case (several are in the works) to give PP the message that you can't just take other's people's money at whim. In the meantime, I discourage its use among my customers and I get a PP payment about once every two weeks instead of several times a day. For more info, read:

Food for thought...I've been using Paypal, since inception, and have run six figures in business through the website without so much as a hickup. I've read many of the complaints other users have written about paypal, but believe that most are a bit exaggerated and off base. If you are a realistic business person and believe that security and a fair profit are important elements to running a website, you are a candidate to happily use paypal. If you are an individual that believes that a financial website can run without profit or stringent rules and regulations, you're better off asking your customers to mail their payments to you. As far as the cost models and policy changes others are whining about, show me one business out there that doesn't have these types of inherent changes, and I'll retract my comment and eat crow. I give Paypal thumbs up. In fact, I'm going to check my account now. I'm betting there are some new funds for me to collect.

I've ridden the NY subway system and have never been murdered. So I guess all those people who were must have done something wrong and deserve it.
As long as there are attitudes like this, companies like Paypal can continue to find victims.

If your business already accepts credit cards, put a secure payment mechanism on your web site (if you have a web site) and the credit card users who don't want to call in their CC numbers will be happy -- or at least most of them will.

Yea on PayPal. If you purchase Quickbooks 2001 you'll find that they are providing a link to PayPal for small businesses to receive credit card payments.

I hope no one does a charge back to Intuit, resulting in Paypal freezing Intuit's account. Or maybe PP is smart enough to only do it to folks too small to fight back.
Are you having trouble getting through to them on their toll-free number?
I am yet to have any problems with paypal. I have received money, I have sent money and when I call them up on their 24 hour toll-free number I get nothing but excellent customer service.

yisgood, many of us appreciate your efforts to educate the unknowing about Paypal. I have no problem with an informed user deciding to assume the risks associated with choosing to do business with them.
I have a *big* problem with someone unilaterally recommending Paypal to a non-user without also providing the rest of the story.
And lest anyone here think that the AW board is somehow "tainted" and therefore doesn't give a true picture of the reality of doing business with Paypal, I can assure you that my own education efforts (with my own customers) have elicited stories that are as horrific as any posted here. None of these victims had ever heard of AW, by the way.

Computerboy -
That's a good bit of the problem with PayPal. It's NOT governed by rules or regulations. There's NO protection for the consumer -- meaning buyer or seller.

I know that people have been killed on the New York City subways, but I still ride them, because they're cheaper than taxis and easier than walking.
Similarly, I realize that there are risks involved in using PayPal, but I find the risks acceptable compared to the benefits.
