Has anyone here noticed a dropoff in their auctions or other problems when they decided to drop PayPal? I'm considering using only Billpoint as a credit card option and I'm wondering how much it might hurt sales.

Any experiences?

Thanks,
Joel

I have not noticed a decrease in sales since dropping paypal back in Oct. Sales are slow, but they are no slower than they were when I offered PP. I have had a few requests to use paypal, but those buyers switched to paydirect when I explained that I didn't take paypal and all has been well.

When I decided to drop paypal, I still had auctions running with it. So I sent winning bidders this message:

"Due to numerous problems reported with Paypal, I do not recommend its use. You can use your credit card for free with Western Union's Moneyzap, which also accepts Amex. Please read the following information to understand the severity of the Paypal problem http://www.ygoodman.com/paypal.html. If you insist on using Paypal anyway, you must either be verified or pay from your existing PP balance or bank account. I can not accept CC payments from unverified users."

I used to get 8-10 PP payments a week. I have gotten just one in several weeks. Everyone else was happy to use Moneyzap, particularly in view of the great job Western Union does in combatting fraud. They contact every single person when the first payment is sent from an account.

It's time we sellers banded together and let these services know that we are not going to accept or recommend substandard services. You can't buy my conscience with your $5 payments.

Dropped paypal a couple months back.
No problems. Much less stress, and more money in my pocket.

I've had no problems since dropping PP. I do use ExchangePath, but don't leave much money there.

I think the categories you sell in make a big difference in whether you are going to have a CC/fraud problem, and therefore a problem with the payment service. If most of your buyers are more mature, serious collectors, and are in the U.S., your chances of problems are greatly reduced. Just my 2 cents.

I state in my EOA email that I will not accept ExchangePath for items to be sent outside the U.S.

Dropped PP 3 months ago and am now using BillPoint exclusively. No problems or drop in sales. Only had one customer ask about PP and once I explained I no longer used it, he paid by BP.

Joel, I don't know. Would this be a problem for you? Steve
