- either in the US or the UK - who stole the Pokemon cards I bought for my daughters...
I hope you weren't too crest-fallen to find they were just a common-or-garden base pack. You may not have been delighted, but my girls would have been.
I wish you a Christmas morning with your ghoolies dropping off, shattering forever on a cold, bare floor. Someone who is such a prick shouldn't have one.
I wish you a turkey that resolutely remains raw in its inner recesses so that you acquire salmonella poisoning, thereby remaining for the entire holiday firmly fixed to the toilet.
I wish you a constant television fare of moronic re-runs, no matter how much you punch that sucking remote.
I wish you yellow and green striped socks, with matching sweater, hand-knitted one size too large, with a built in sag to complement your morality.
I wish you a new polyester/nylon shirt that is just a little tight and itchy - perfect to wear under that sweater.
I am sure I will think of some other not-very-warm-and-loving thoughts for you, you bloody lowlife!
mivona (yes, I am just a little peeved!) and thanks for listening to my rant

Hi mivona,
What kind of cards were they? I have some that I was going to give my son for Christmas but he isn't into Pokemon anymore. You're welcome to them if you want them.

To be honest, I don't know much about Pokemon cards. They were not expensive, but it really bugs me that someone would steal them. They did not just fall out of the envelope, it was carefully opened. It was posted only four days ago from the US (pretty bloody fast crossing), and had nearly $4 in postage on it. I am absolutely sure it had the cards in it.
The cards were a 2-player starter deck, with 60 cards, 10 counters, starter guide, rule book and included "a first edition HOLOGRAPHIC MACHAMP card" (whatever that means).
Pokemon is just hotting up in England, and my girls just want to play with them - not be collectors. I bid and won two of these starter decks from different sellers (this one was only $3.25 plus P&P), so they could each have one. GRRRR! If what you have is similar, I would be pleased to make a private deal with you.
stomping off to have a cup of coffee, waiting for the bloody gas man who has less than 15 minutes until he is LATE for his appointment (8am-1pm - JEEZ! with that much leeway you would think they could arrive on time!)

Hi mivona,
I don't have all that, sorry. I've got five unopened Series 2 foil packs, each with 11 cards in them. These are booster packs. I won't charge for them so if you would like to have them, just email me at [email protected] and let me know where to ship them. Consider them a gift from my son to your girls.

Thank you for your lovely offer - I have emailed you privately.
Pocono,
I *know* not all posties are men, and not all men are bad, and that some women are bad too. We have a lovely woman postie for our road, and I cannot imagine her doing something so mean-spirited, but I *can* imagine some people of the non-male gender indulging in such dispicable behaviour.
It's just been one of those days... stolen post, the gas man turned up minutes before 1, when I was expected to go out. We had a nice chat about America, the election and the importance of not flying on United Airlines. Then the school called - sick child. I haven't been shopping, and don't know what to cook for dinner, and it is still bloody raining - ARRRGH!
Thanks for letting me vent, guys! I know not everyone is horrible.

I'm an Ebay seller of Pokemon cards. How terrible to have them taken like that! I had some get stolen between the US and Canada - fortunately for me the buyer was understanding and we chose to blame customs. 8)
One thing to watch out for with Pokemon cards - there are two kinds. The ones produced by Wizards of the Coast would be like the deck that you purchased and is used for playing The Card Game associated with Pokemon. The sellers who commented that she had "Series 2" booster packs may have been referring to collector cards put out by TOPPS. They are for collecting only, not for playing any games.
So if your daughters want to play Pokemon: The Card Game, they'll be looking for Wizards of the Coast Pokemon cards.
Unfortunately things like this happen quite often. I used to sell Beanie Babies from a web site and every package I sent to one of my customers had a large hole cut in the side (from what looked like a box knife). Someone was looking through the contents...
I thought we were being investigated for some reason, but the PO assured me that this would not happen. Someone was looking for something valueable to steal....

I generally do not bother with insurance on goods, unless they are high value and I am concerned about them being stolen. It seems like a racket to me, paying insurance on *everything* as a possible safeguard against postal theft.
If something gets broken in the post, would the post office pay out? I don't think so.. if it broke in the post, it wasn't packed properly, and if it wasn't packed properly it isn't the post office's fault - or at least that is what they would say, I think.
So, the point of all this...
Yesterday I received a figurine and pin/badge, which I got "Buy it Now". After the auction closed, I emailed the seller telling her I would like it for Christmas, and asked her to sent it airmail. The original auction stated that the piece would be insured in the US and were ok with internation. I didn't mention insurance - thinking she would do it anyway.
The parcel arrived promptly. The outer box was intact, the box with the figurine in it was nicely cushioned all around with plastic bags. I opened the box, to find the pin lying in its plastic bag, no bubble wrap around it. I picked up the figurine, and found two small bits had broken off, presumably from being hit by the pin.
I emailed the seller, nicely, terribly sorry to have to tell her that it had arrived broken. It was sent small packet air (no insurance available). I paid what she asked for, and she under-estimated the postage, so she is out $2.20.
She reckons it is my fault for not asking for insurance. I reckon it is her fault for not packing the pin properly. I have asked her to try to reach a place where we are both happy, and suggested I try to find a china repairer here. No reply yet.
What do y'all think?
(if I don't respond for a bit, it is because I am coming down with the little one's cold... Tomorrow is another day!)

mivona, small packet air from the US to Canada is not insurable. In order to insure it, a package like that would have to go the at the much higher international parcel post rate.

Hi mivona,
I'm sorry I wasn't able to get back here earlier to answer you. I'm making quilts for all my kids for Christmas and I don't have very much time to spend on line right now.
The booster packs I have are Wizard of the Coast, and they do go with the base deck.
mzalez, the lamp is currently in a box in my garage. Ebay would do nothing to help me, but it's kinda grown on me and I still like it, cracks and all. As soon as my remodeling project is finished, I'll put the lamp on a shelf with my other lamps and it'll look great.

Robin,
I am warmed by your generosity, and thank you. I don't know what else to say.
Regarding the broken figurine, this is what I have decided to do - opinions would be welcome.
We have taken pictures of the damaged figurine, still in the box, as we did not even taken it out of its wrapping when we saw it was broken. I have rung a professional repairer, and I will be taking it there tomorrow to be fixed as best it can.
I have emailed the seller, asking if we could come to some mutual arrangement, and I have had no response. I will email again, with the pics, and if no response, will neg her by the end of the week for poor packing, and lack of cooperation in resolving. It is not a huge amount of money, but if I am going to be out-of-pocket I would rather have something one of my children would be happy with than to pay for the shipping back and have nothing.
Comments?
A much better day today.. got the lights up on the tree outside (even though it started raining towards teh end), and the tree up indoors. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
