Am trying to find a fast payment method for a fairly large transaction. I DO know UPS will do COD for $5.50 fee and accepts as much as $50,000 (now THAT would be nice) ! I can also request mo or cashier's check only and refuse cks on the form I fill out.
What I DON'T know is ... how long until payee (me) actually receives the money from UPS AND are they reliable?

I have used UPS COD dozens of times for purchases. It has generally worked fine, except the first time I ordered something COD, when the package coming to me was handed to me by the UPS driver - who promptly turned and jumped into the truck and took off without collecting! It was the Christmas season, and the guy was tired, I guess. COD is inappropriate for most Ebay deals. It is only good for deals between buyers and companies, who have a history of transactions in the past, in businesses that are not public enough to attract people playing games. Even then, they'd do better to just run an account. I would really NOT get involved in sending stuff COD.

I forgot to warn you, just because that form is filled out not to take personal checks, that is no guarantee that the driver is going to pay any attention to that. I have always been able to write a check no matter what.

1. I'd never ship COD, period to a new customer.
2. We have an UPS account and have never had problems with incoming COD (we often purchase COD if we are ordering from a new wholesaler).
3. It sometimes takes close to a month to get payment
4. I have NEVER had UPS deliver and accept a personal check when the item required a MO or such.
5. UPS doesn't accept cash in any large amount so you would want to ask for a MO, which is faster and sent directly to you.
6. If you are sending more than one package at a time to the same buyer - this is the catch. If you don't charge a COD on each package, the driver could leave 3 out of 4 and not collect (as it is not necessary). The buyer could keep the 3, and refuse to pay for the 4th!
7. If you order lots COD and have a track record with a wholesaler, or any other company you can ask for a 1 tag COD. That is when they ship lets say 4 boxes but only charge the COD fee on one.
8. I personally see no reason for an auction buyer to request COD as it costs them more, and it sure doesn't guarantee that the boxes you ship aren't pack with bricks. BUT it can be costly to you the shipper should the COD be refused.

Yes, I find that UPS is slow and a horrible pain. FedEx handels COD much better, getting your payment to you in 2 business days.
