Hi all:

I just purchased a widget today that I really liked. We're not talking big bucks here, less than $10 but I'm very peeved at the sellers misleading ad headers. The header went like this (obvious info changed)

Beautiful Widget Like NEW!$$*Free S&H

Now....wouldn't YOU think that this seller was offering free S & H on her auction(s)??

Well, buried about 3/4 of the way down in her paragraph long TOS is the following:
****WIN THREE OF MY CLOTHING/SHOE AUCTIONS IN 10 DAYS AND I PAY YOUR SHIPPING!****

I am not a new buyer or seller and I do read TOS, but I really thought this one had free shipping. I wrote to the seller and told that that I thought that the header was misleading but would follow through with the sale and she told me that that was what the * was for in the header so it would draw your attention to the shipping text in her TOS. Sorry, I think thats a stretch....lol

I still want the item and will pay the s & h, but its just the point. I looked at this sellers other auctions after the fact and sure enough, on EVERY one of her auctions she has the same type of header. Is this kosher?

I agree that that was misleading. Same as all the headers that say 'antique' or 'vintage' and they're not!!! That's a huge peeve of mine.

Just received this in email from the seller, apparently she thinks her headers are just fine...LOL

"I disagree, there is an asterisk for a reason. I cannot put all my promo info
in my subject. But I do make sure to put the full details (IN CAPS) on my
auction pages. I think it is a nice way to thank my repeat customers."

Maybe she should put in
"Beautiful Widget-Like NEW$$*NO FREE SHIPPING

LOL at myself

Or beautiful widget like new with shipping promo

something like that

The word that gets me is gorgeous. I have come to learn that if it is described as gorgeous, it means it's gonna put your eye out if you look at it too long.

So bascially a header like that is only misleading and not "illegal" as far as Ebay rules go. Too bad, I think sellers like this give us a bad name.

We get enough of this crap in our everyday life from retailers.
I would definately state in her feedback your grievance. Short sweet statement will suffice. (And help others as well)
'Item OK but misleading offers for free ship'
