Hi all -

Anyone have resolutions or goals for making changes in your business for 2001? Here are some of mine:

1. Go legit. This week I will apply for my tax ID number, and hopefully next week will have my business license.

2. Improve efficiency. I started selling in Feb 2000, and over the year I've found many ways to streamline my work, such as buying the digital camera and learning auction management software. I want to do more in less time, because I've gained 10 lbs since going on ebay - no time to work out!

3. Figure out how to do more on Yahoo. I'm always pleased when I sell something there, but I need to spend more time figuring out what and how to sell there.

One thing I've debated is 4. Finding new sources of items to sell. At this point I don't think I'll go very far down that path, at least in terms of exploring wholesale goods or other items that require a larger initial investment than I have currently made. Because I work full time, I can't really do much great volume anyway, and my current sources of books are practically a bottomless pit. You never know when things change, though, like Salvation Army doubling its prices a month ago.

1) No longer accept online payments (unless perhaps that bank-to-bank only one). Go back to the ease and less hurried processing of checks/MO's. (And prevent my ulcer from the feared chargebacks from the loonies) Guess what? I already have!

2) Create a new even more simplified EOA notice and terms section in the auction listings. Aha!.. doing #1 already took care of that!

3) Stop buying stuff soley for the purpose of resale (e.g. "hot deals". Too many chances for money loss: (Trx Fees, Deadbeat bidders, Rebates rejected, Broken items, Fast depreciation)

4) Go back to clearing out the rest of my duplicated/not wanted old videogame collection stuff. (I've already started thanks to GoTo's and AW's free listing days)

5) Stick to just the old videogame stuff and the rare personal computer upgrade part selling.

6) Sit back and Relax and have a life again.

7) Use some of the money from the sales to shore up the missing parts of what I am still collecting.

My end of the year resolution was to clear out all my backed-up 2000 inventory. I've done pretty well.....80 percent of the stuff is gone....I can actually see the walls of my dining room/computer nerve center again. I got rid of an ugly old filing cabinet I was using just to hold resale items waiting to be Ebay'ed. Empty! Now gone! Yay!

It turned out I WAAAAAY over-ordered Priority boxes for the holiday season. I have approximately 15 boxes of BOXES in various sizes....there is no way I will need all these. I have to schlepp them back to the post office. Bleh. So, resolutions for 2001....

1) Clean up shipping area by taking boxes back to local PO

2) Concentrate on fewer high ticket items instead of more small price auctions

3) Finish off remaining inventory built up from 2000

4) Do my taxes early.

5) Organize my time better so that Ebaying activities only take up 50% of my life, leaving time for friends, family and other activities that have nothing to do with Ebay

6) Stop boring friends and family members with Ebay stories and rants (this might be difficult, since my mom and aunt also Ebay, and we end up making every family event an "Ebay War Stories Day".

7) Make time for my sweetie that doesn't involve trips to the post office.

8) Find part time employment using the new skills I have learned running my Ebay business.
