Yup...guilty! I was selling some videos and sent the wrong one out to one of the buyers! Imagine my surprise when I received payment for it and couldn't find the correct video in my "stash!" When I figured out what I had done, I hastily e-mailed the buyer who got the wrong video and asked him to write "refused" on it and return it to me. He was a delightful fellow and did as I'd asked. When I received it back, I promptly went to the post office and overnight expressed it to the correct buyer...and paid the extra money. That transaction ended up costing me about $15.00 but figured it was worth it in customer satisfaction. I now write on the outside of each package exactly what's inside(in a code that only I can understand)!

I received a package meant for someone else. The seller sent me my item and someone elses. I sent the other item on to the intended person after emailing the seller. The seller, bless her heart, then sent me more than enough money to cover the shipping and insurance. Everyone was happy.

Oh dear, I hate to admit to this one but yes . . . . a few times over the last several years I've accidentally switched packages. Fortunately the majority of the buyers were very gracious, even amused at my pin-headedness, but the last time it happened I learned an important lesson:

One of the buyers offered to send her item to the other person and was very gracious and sincere. The other buyer was very short and curt in her e-mail to me, my gut feeling was that she might be trouble. She took several WEEKS to get the item to the right person and in the meantime refused to communicate or answer any of my e-mails. I was beginning to think she would end up with both items. She became very nasty when I finally filed a request for assistance through the dispute resolution service.

Lesson learned: if my gut instinct forebodes trouble, have them send the items back to me and I'll get them right.

Yes, two or three times. If this happens, instead of having a heart attack tell yourself "this too shall pass", and correct it. Since all (most?) customers are human too, and more than likely reasonable ones at that, it's not the end of the world. Mistakes can be fixed.

Actually I did worse.....I had 12 boxes to go out once and was in a BIG hurry as we were heading out of town and addressed TWO OF THEM TO MYSELF..... ...imagine my surprise when I returned monday to find them in the post office waiting for me...luckily the bidders were really great about it and we all had a laugh.....Pam

Yup! Twice!!
First time I sent one buyer both items to the same buyer. When I notified the "lucky" recipient he cooperated by simply refusing the second package. It was returned to me by the PO with no extra costs. The "unlucky" buyer simply waited until it was all straightened out. Two positive feedbacks.

Second time I switched items. Both buyers mailed their package to the other with no hassle. I refunded their postage via PayPal and added a bit extra for their inconvenience. Two positive feedbacks.

People are generally OK - if you notice, it's mostly the jerks that get talked about on these posts. That's because the jerks stand out in a crowd of decent folks.

Tatooana, was that you? Cause that's exactly what I did once. Sent the customer their package and then a wrong one. Paid them to ship it to the right person instead of sending it back to me.

Another time sent 2 out to wrong people and paid them to send it to each other. Which they did and it turned out fine after all.

Thank God for great bidders and the fact I goof up only about once a year! Don't even ask about this years goofs. 2 in one year, cause I'm getting CRS and along in years and that's a whole 'nuther thread!

Hi..first time posting...
Sent two items to the same person...she did not reject it when it arrived(I had asked if she would),did offer to send it on WHEN I sent her the money to do so and something extra for her effort(she lived 20 miles from a post office..does anyone live 20 miles from a PO?Not in this case.looked up her address)Result...would have cost more than the original cost & shipping..and correct buyer wasn't concerned as long as she was out no money.(Yes..I would have rewarded her for her cooperation.but no paying ransom!!)(edited to add...just told her to keep it)
Worse..as a buyer.just mixed up to Postal M.O. checks.guy who was supposed to get $6.91 received $125 ...made out to him!
Is saying he is returning....and he will get "rewarded"for doing so...has not asked for a thing.

I've had the wrong item sent to me and didnt' even notice it!

I occasionaly purchase vintage linen items in lots. I received a package, opened and inspected the items and everything looked in good order! That night I got a panicky email from the seller telling me she had sent me the wrong lot and could I please forward the items to the real owner.

I felt like a real boob for not realizing these were not my items - I never would have complained etc. I get so many similar items that the package looked like something I would bid on!

So, just so you know...if you send items to compulsive collectors there is a chance they won't even notice you've sent them the wrong item!

And yes, I did forward the items on to the real winner!

Not yet, but give me time. I did have a seller send something I bought to the wrong person but they sent it to me. No harm done. The seller was really upset so I gave her an extra nice pos. feedback. Anybody can make a mistake.

Yes, twice.

The first time, one buyer didn't notice (they were similar items) and the other like the item better. Both became repeat buyers and left positive feedback.

The second time we sent the wrong item to a person that had not even paid for their item yet. Luckily we had multiples and were able to send both parties their items.

Oh, this makes me feel better. Yes, but only once.

I sent out a cup and saucer and received a quick reply to my shipping notice, telling me that she was just getting ready to email me that payment was on its way and wondering why I had sent her cup and saucer to some other person. OUCH!!! When the other person sent payment, I had mistakenly entered her shipping info on that item and printed out the packing slip, label, etc.. I immediately emailed the person to whom I'd shipped and let them know of the mistake. I PayPal'ed her enough money to cover shipping and insurance after she agreed to forward the package, and mailed her item the next day. I was sweating the feedback on this one, but received positives from both bidders.

Hey, does it count that I just got positive feedback from someone I hadn't even sent an EOA notice to yet? Now that's some buyer! But I'm sure they just mixed it up.

Yep - Been there, done that!

First time about 4 years ago, to me it was traumatic back then - I sent the wrong cookies jars to two different people, that is I sent a Coke Bear to a man who ordered a Marilyn Monroe and vice versa - can you believe these two customers were just great, and actually mailed the cookies jars to each other, and didn't demand to send them to me, and so forth!

Now, about once a year, we will get something mixed up - we are only human, and when there are others packing, things can get mixed up. We had one a couple of weeks ago, one of my assistants sent a knife to a man who had ordered a Ship's Wheel. Needless to say, when it arrived, the man realized by the size of the package that it was the wrong item, and just refused the package, and we shipped out his Ship's Wheel. He was quite gracious about it.

Back when I did all of my own packing, this would be a rare happening, but since I handled all the paper work I just naturally remembered what people ordered, but with others packing for us now, they aren't as aware of who ordered what because they aren't dealing with the postings, the initial win, the follow up e-mails and such.

MY biggest problem is OVER SELLING! Now I haven't totally found a solution for this problem. Let's say I have 4 of an item. I post one on our web site, and put two on the auction. The auctions sell, and I post again, THEN, the auctions sells, and the website sells at the same time, now I have 5 sales for 4 items!

We do our best to avoid this, but we do get caught occasionally - most of the time I can get another of the items - but once in a blue moon I can't, and I hate when this happens. We are off the boards at the moment and going to do inventory, and try to keep a tighter watch on inventory to avoid this type of problem.
