I've got a doozie here. When I try to drag a file to a folder (say from my desktop to a folder in My Documents) I get the following fatal error message:
Unable to create an instance of required object: Server/Admin
Whoa. I have searched the MS knowledge base and the Norton AnitVirus Base (last thing I loaded).
I have uninstalled Norton and reloaded windows (pain) and the problem persisits.
Any ideas?
'preciate it.

Can't answer your question but would suggest you post to the microsoft.public....windows98 newsgroup. Not sure of specific name of newsgroup. Also search on

I had a W98 problem last month (hanging and crashing) that I spent days trying to resolve and finally out of desperation called Microsoft tech support. For $35 they say they'll provide resolution and they did. Spent 1/2 day on phone and determined that one problem was a bemer virus that my Norton AV did not pick up. Well worth it and I learned some new Windows diagnostic tricks.
Good luck

Hi, go to www.microsoft.com
You can look up the exact error message(if it is a windows based error message) and you can find troubleshooting tips. I have had to do this several times. Lauren
have you tried running scandisk and defrag? i've found that running them helps a lot. go to start>programs>accessories>system tools and find them. run scandisk first and then defrag.
do you have a server running on your computer? this could be a webserver? are you trying to drag and drop into a folder for the web server, or is it anytime or everytime you drag and drop into any folder?

Try this instead of drag and drop Right mouse click the file you want to move on the menu click send to and choose the folder from there you want to send your file to.
if you have not done a disk scan and defrag in a while run these over night not sure this will help.
Since I have a copy of win98 upgrade CD when win98 gets to messed up on me I clean my hard drive of all unwanted files and just run the up grade CD this dont delete no files or programs you have installesd it just resets window back to standard configuration.
This is faster and less time consumeing then searching the microsoft website also makes the computer run like ne wagain till it get to tied in nots again which could take a few more years. http://www.Dman-N-Company.com
