Any suggestions on whether to spend money with auctions that close between Christmas and New Year's. Is it better to wait until the first week on January for closes. I sell software and usually run short auctions (3 to 5 days). Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions on best days and times to end auctions. Experienced auction goers probably know this, I just need to learn. Thanks. PS: I love AW!!

I'd suggest waiting a week or so after Christmas as I have been receiving very few bids lately. Maybe it's that people go on vacation and/or they are going out shopping and being with their families over this break.

Personally I'll probably wait until after the first. I took quite a hit with running auctions ending on the 14-17th of December, and some BIN auctions at the same time. I was hoping to get last minute Christmas shoppers who would pay electronically to get it by Christmas. No such luck. While I did sell most of what I had listed, bids were WAY lower than I expected (based on past history) and I was very disappointed. In addition, I was doing this for some "last minute" Christmas money myself and with the slowwwwwwwww regular mail service right now and people not wanting this stuff for Christmas presents, payments are not coming in either so I probably won't even get most of the money in time for my own Christmas needs.
Yuck. Learned my lesson. Next year I plan ahead, list maniacally to get my Christmas money by listing stuff in Nov. and NO later than the 1st week of December, but no more of these holiday auctions for me unless I'm in a position next year to do it 'just for fun'!

Last year I took a gamble, not knowing what to expect by posting listings the week past Christmas. It was a huge success, so I'll do it again this year.
