Hey folks,
I've seen some complaints about restricted PayPal accounts out here. Due to the implementation of some additional anti-fraud measures, some users who accessed their accounts in the 5:00 hour Pacific time this evening may have had their account erroneously restricted. We will be correcting this and lifting those restrictions later this evening. We will notify any affected accountholder by email, as well. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. We will continue to strive to provide the best possible customer service and security.

I hadn't logged in AT ALL today before I logged in and found that it was restricted. How do you explain that? This is a bunch of crap.

Damon, I use Paypal for both my website and eBay. My Verified Business Account was restricted due to this "glitch". While I was "restricted" were any customers who tried to pay me informed in any way that my account was restricted? If so, I will not be a happy camper. My business is built on my excellent reputation for integrity and customer service. A restriction would potentially reflect badly on me. Folks would think I was unprofessional, or at worst a risk for fraud or etc. I need to know what occurs when someone tried to pay a restricted account. I also would like to know what is being done to prevent this happening in the future. If folks were informed of my "restricted" status, I expect them to be notified of this glitch so they will not think it was something I did.

OK, I finally figured it out...
The employees at Paypal and Exchangepath know that their companies are going down the toilet, and they have decided to have a little fun before the fall.
So they are having a competition to see who can alienate the most customers.
Paypal had the early lead of course, but for a newcomer, Exchangepath was doing extremely well, and might have pulled in the lead a bit.
But don't count out the old veteran. This sounds like Paypal is launching a fresh offensive...

Sigh...another example of PayPal's inattentive, amateurish, we're-really-just-two-dumb-guys-in-a-garage attitude toward its customers.
These guys want to be a one-size-fits-all Internet bank and they can't do anything right.
I've emptied my account and am cancelling it (as soon as the funds are transferred). It was convenient for my customers, but it's not worth the hassle on my part.
It was a good idea, but they've tricked, lied and changed policies one too many times for me.
Sigh.

My account was restricted on 10/24 and you they still haven't fixed it. Got $800+ in there.
I finally got my first reply to any email I sent about a week ago and I faxed them all sorts of documents like my DL, Visa Statement, etc, and still not a word.
I advise everyone to stay away from PayPal.
I'm no theif and there has been no fraud.
I've done like 5 transactions in the past 5 or 6 months so I cant even begin to think of what they are investigating or what fraud occured since the transactions were all with friend I know.
I sent an email to them every 3-4 days or so over the 7 weeks, and never got anything but "we're looking into it" reply. Got about 6 of those generic form letter replies they do. The last one I got requested that info and it's been over a week now and they still haven't done anythign with that.

Why anyone still uses PP is beyond me.
A word of encouragement: Since I closed my account several weeks ago, I've found buyers have very little brand loyalty when it comes to online payment services. I've also discovered most buyers are in the dark about the downside of PP.
They're as horrified as we are when they learn the facts. When they do find out, most of 'em wouldn't use PP if YOU paid THEM!
Give it a try; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. A link to this thread is probably all they'll need to see the light.
