eBay entered into an agreement with a company to provide complete auction management software for us sellers free of charge. This could be the answer we've all been looking for:
CAM Enters Into Alliance With eBay to Provide Retailers With Total Auction Management Solution
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2000--CAM Commerce Solutions (Nasdaq:CADA - news) Wednesday announced it has entered into an agreement with eBayŽ (Nasdaq:EBAY - news), the world's leading online trading community, to provide small- to medium-size retailers and businesses with a total auction management software solution that allows retailers to place, track, manage and fulfill listings on eBay all through their CAM POS and inventory management system.
The auction management software includes inventory management, point of sale, sales order processing, purchasing, receiving, customer management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, e-commerce Web storefront and online payment processing for credit cards.
As a continuation of CAM's seeding strategy for the smallest retailers and businesses, the company's single-user, single-location software for retailing, called Retail ICE, will be free and include the auction management option.
The auction management software component will also be included at no additional charge in the company's multi-user and multi-location software packages called Retail STAR, CAM-32, Profit$ and MicroBiz of which there are more than 10,000 customers with many more store locations.
Based on the agreement the resulting software development schedule anticipates the first customer deliveries for the auction management add-on to CAM's above listed software packages to take place in approximately six months.
CAM will be one of the first companies to license and utilize the new eBay Application Programming Interface (API) recently announced by eBay, which allow certified software developers to interface with eBay's trading system.
``The bottom line is that our customers can benefit greatly from easier access to eBay's proven online sales channel,'' said Geoff Knapp, CEO of CAM Commerce Solutions.
``Retailers are always looking for new and better ways to move goods and generate new business. While they can buy and sell on eBay today, the reality is that very few of our customers do so because of lack of integration with existing business processes.
``By combining the selling and fulfillment process with their existing system a retailer will be able to list an item much faster and more efficiently while tracking the entire process. This tracking includes reporting on the effectiveness of the auction process. Furthermore, as merchandise is sold the fulfillment process is tied into the existing sales order processing system.
``The auction management piece of our total solution fits directly with our stated goal to be a total infrastructure provider for the commerce needs of small- to medium-size retailers and businesses and our goal to expand our transaction-based revenue opportunities.''
