I just had a buyer email me that her package which I shipped 12-11-00 has not arrived, she is very upset about this. She wants me to track her package. Can someone please tell me how to do this. It was shipped Priority Mail.

If you used DC, you can go to the USPS site and track the DC number. If you didn't, there really isn't anything you can do until 30 days after mailing, at which time you can initiate a Lost Mail Claim through your PO.

Also, if it was insured with a Blue insurance form for over $50, you can use that number to track it with.

Unfortunately, even with the Blue Insurance Form, inserting the Tracking Number will only tell you 2 things (one if them you already know):

When parcel was shipped..

When it arrived...NOTHING in between.

Just had a big row with Post Office about that

And yes, the delays are horrendous right now!

Shoshanah...Do you remember when the PO first started the Delivery Confirmation option?...Back then, they USED to track every step..guess they thought .35 wasn't enough to pay to have to scan the bar code at each stop!...geez...

When I send something by Book Rate (special standard) it sometimes gets scanned a couple of times before it reaches it's destination. Maybe it stops in more places when it's on it's way than Priority does--whose purpose is to get there ASP

Rancher...Yup!...Things just ain't the way they used to be...

When I was at the Post Office the other day, I was just about called a "fool" for NOT shipping EXPRESS! I then asked what the guarantee was...already knowing the answer :

NONE! All it guarantees is a shipping cost refund if parcel does not arrived in 2 days...

What is this...Do we all wear a "Please ABUSE ME" sign on our forehead???

Zazzie...the old DC used to show when it left the originating PO, arrival at local distribution center, departure from local..&.so on & so on down the line....Now it's point A & point B, with no real guarantee that it actually made it to point B...

Shoshanah...One of my favorite PO clerks was spotted FedEx'ng funds to his son...When I questioned him about it, his response was "when it absolutely must be there overnight, DON'T us PO Express!"

Rancher24---that's what happens to the items that I send by Bookrate---I get the full travel itinery of the package.

but when I send Priority--I only get that it was received by the Post Office I took it too and then that it was delivered.

Zazzie...that's pretty neat!...Wonder if the PO got confused & swapped the two OR if they had alot of problems with non-priority stuff going missing...hmmmmmm

Next time I send a book, I'm gonna try it...see if that works for me too!...

Having DC doesn't even guarantee you will "see" when it was delivered!!! I sent a package last week with DC. I mailed on a Monday and item was received on a Thursday, pretty good time. The USPS tracking still shows it in transit! Apparantly it didn't get scanned at the other end. I asked if I could get my money back and was told probably not, but if our local postmaster wanted to "persue" the matter, he would contact the PO at the other end and tell them they were negligent.

Now I get another email from this lady, she states it has been long enough for the package to have gotten to her, it was shipped 12-11 She insist I make a claim. I haven't had a problem like this lady before. I need some advise. I sell high end collectible ornaments. This sounds like a rich B***H from H*LL Oh, yea she says she did some checking on her end and she said the PO told her you could track a package all the way accross the country. This is not what my PO says. What would you do?

Unfortunately, a claim may NOT be started until 30 days have gone by....And in the case of an Insured Item with the BLUE form, at the bottom of the form, where it asks "Recipient's Name", if it show the BUYER's name (which it would, since the package is going to THEM...duh!), The BUYER, who is the beneficiary of the claim, will have to initiate the claim. So, seller needs to make a copy of the claim check, and MAIL the ORIGINAL to BUYER....
I do not know how it works for claims under 50.00

Be careful with Express mail too. Buyer sent me $200.00 cash in Express mail. Mailman put it in apartment mailbox at street. I thought you had to sign for these things?

My opinion is that was not too bright! When sending cash one should use registered mail, or western union or not send it at all. Ever heard of a money order? I wonder how many people get packages that just say they don't. Ever wonder that?

"I wonder how many people get packages that just say they don't. Ever wonder that? "

That's exactly why I use DC on all my Priority shipments and get some proof of mailing for any other item I can't afford to replace or refund. It might not guarantee that the customer gets their package, but at least I've got proof that I shipped it. If they chose to ship without insurance, then they accepted the risk of loss (clearly stated in my listings and my EOA). I figure that, if they want to take that proof of shipment and tell the USPS that they didn't receive the package, even though they really did, it's their choice to risk a mail fraud charge.

DC will still sometimes be scanned between the originating and destination post offices, as I've seen it on some of the packages I've checked on. As far as not getting scanned on either end, are your postal clerks not scanning them as they receive them, while you're standing there watching? The only way I can see this as being a problem is if you're printing your own postage and just dropping them off at the PO. Otherwise, they can't print the appropriate metered postage unless they scan the package.
