Well,they da'boss BUT...
I usually start my auctions at a dollar and when they only bring a dollar I just figure the loss as an advertising expense due to the fact a fair amount of hits on my site come from the ebay link.Works for me .
I just recieved a letter starting out;
"NOTICE: eBay Informational Alert - Advertising Direct Sales- [email protected]" Galadriel ([email protected])
eBay Community Watch Team
OOPS,I really didnt know you couldnt do that.I notified them that I will fix my auction links on the next set I list.I seem to remember most auctions I have seen advertise ther site as I do.
They said "You are allowed to have a link to your web site. Please remember: the intent of allowing links to a web site from your Item page has always been to enable you to provide additional information to help you sell that item. The link should not advertise other items or the fact that you may have other items for sale on your web page. The links to your own web site must comply with the guidelines outlined in the Advertisements policy."
QUESTION:
Has anyone else had any experience with this
infraction. They say you can link for the purpose of selling "that item"...I think 99% of the links on eBay would violate that rule.

Nice to know I've been "breaking the law" for five years now.
I say let's take over an abandoned ocean drilling rig, start our own country, and declare war on eBah.

I can see ebays concern in principle
Here's the problem. The people with websites are usauly the powersellers that generate ebay lots of money. Not good to piss them off. In fact, many people finance thier ebay fees by selling from the web site. If eBay vigorously enforces this rule, they will lose revenues (well in this case, profits too)...They will learn the hard way

I got suspended for including a "link" to my own email address - not even offering a direct sale
Go figure eh!

Well, poor old Meg has to eat too you know. After all, she never got a real job until she was 40 so she has a lotta catching up to do. Problem is, with her dictatorship rules getting stupider and more restrictive every day, she's gonna have to raise the listing and selling fees again just to maintain he standard of living. To compound the problem, eBay Pom Pom wavers are dropping off the site like flies ...
Gotta love Capitalism eh

From eBay's link to site rules...
I have highlighted by using caps...
"The LINK SHOULD NOT ADVERTISE OTHER ITEMS or the fact that you may have other items for sale on your web page. The links to your own web site must comply with the guidelines outlined in the Advertisements policy."
Say "Visit my website" or "More information at my website", something like that IS OK..!!
You CAN'T say..."Buy your widgets at my website" or "See all my gift items at"...
Use common sense when linking and your auction will not get removed...

vargas ... read all about it in my thread "Proof of a Double Standard? (LONG!)"
In that thread I explain why I included this statement in my listing that was ended by eBay and resulted in an indefinite suspension.
"LOOKERS - eBay has been canceling my legitimate auctions due to interference from another member. Therefore, THIS AUCTION MAY END AT ANY TIME. If you are seriously interested in this item, please print the listing so you can contact me in the event it is ended by eBay before you have an opportunity to place a bid. Thanks ..."
I guess if I was a PowerSeller, I probably would have got a warning ("Informational Alert" first
MrBucks ... I can point you to hundreds of listings that do exactly what you say they are not supposed to do, that is, offer the looker a place to go to purchase more 'widgets' ...

I understand that and SO WHAT ???
They run the risk of having their auctions shut down or even suspension...Thats the way they want to play...Let them...
If you want to play, you have to play by their rules...If you don't play by their rules, you risk the chance of being suspended or ?
The decision is up to each person as to how badly they want to play and is it worth it to have to play by the rules...

Do I have to tell...LOL
I know it is obvious, thats the purpose.I wanted people to go to my site. What a blatant disregard of the rules. My grevious error is,quote:
"Larger Case Lots are available, email for details or check our website.Click here for Country Furniture , Gifts and Accessories. Secure Order Form.Watch our web site along with eBay Auctions for CASE LOTS !! *** Buy for resale or save by buying quanity!***"
Does that sound a bit heavy handed...I wanted to attract attention. Why say "Visit Our Website"
I will have to reconsider my dollar auctions if I cant use my auction space for a little promo.I would love to kick eBay but all things considered I havent found a better place. After this warning though I will definately try Amazon and Yahoo.

MRBucks: I have a question that's been on my mind for some time now.
Are you affiliated with ebay in ANY way, OTHER than being a typical buyer/seller?
No insult intended, just wondering.

Nope...
Not attached to the 'Mighty' eBay in any way...
I am NOT happy with the rules we must play by either, but if I want to play and continue to play, I guess I will follow the rules..
I to have been reported, auctions shut down, accused of all kinds of things by competitors and eBay but I got over trying to fight 'em so I joined 'em...Hurts my heart but I did it..!!!

Thanks acyberguy. Yep, that phrasing will get you busted!
If eBay really wants a piece of off-eBay biz, it should do something similar to Amazon's zShops and let you link from your auction to your eBay shop.
Learned to tie your shoes the hard way, eh, MRBucks?

Yes, a "fellow ebayer" reported you to ebay.
You were breaking the rules, but you will find zillions of auctions doing the same thing.
Same thing happened to me last year.

Trying to 'bend' the rules to suit ME didn't seem to be such a terrible thing to do at the time, after all, who could it hurt...
It caught me and cost me $$$ every time...
I am much more careful now...

I don't mind following the rules, as a matter of fact I am so "legal" in things it drives people nuts!
Yes, I am one of those people that actually does 35 mph in the construction when it says that speed.
But I think ebay should enforce their own rules and not rely on tattle talers to do that for them.
That is my biggest beef about this subject.
