Over half my customers use paypal to pay for their auctions ~ so I have not wanted to stop taking paypal ~ I have not had any problems with them ~ but is there something out there that is cheaper to the seller? ~ and better?

I've not found one cheaper, and they all have their problems. I'm sticking with PayPal, but making sure my i's are dotted and my t's are crossed when it comes to the Seller Protection plan.

Billpoint's Merchant-level fee for credit cards is pretty close to PayPal's credit card fee. Billpoint is 2.25% + 35 cents (including mandatory 0.5% daily sweep fee) while PayPal charges 2.2% + 30 cents.
Billpoint crushes PayPal in the e-check department. PayPal charges 1.6% for e-checks.
Billpoint's e-checks are free.
If you do international transactions, BidPay has everyone else beat, hands down. They take responsibility for making sure the credit cardholder is legit. Buyer pays. You get a money order. Just be sure to wait to ship until you get the 2nd e-mail from Bidpay. That's the confirmation e-mail that your money order is in the mail.
I've also been paid through Yahoo PayDirect. I have not had occasion yet to use Achex.
