He wins an auction of mine for 6.95 on 12-11. It was a "whoop-de-doo" auction for me--a big disappointment as far as closing price but he won it at 6.95 and of course a sale is a sale. The thing is somewhat heavy and would cost $9 and some change to ship. So he sends the shipping amount only very quickly.

OK, a simple misunderstanding. I asked him to please send the 6.95 bid price ASAP--at least a few times via email and didn't get a reply. Finally I emailed telling him I was cancelling the transaction and was sending his partial payment check back to him and this time he does email and says he's sorry, he'll send the rest of the amount he owes. That was on 12-23.

No check yet. A measeley 6.95. By the way, I haven't cashed his first 9.00 payment yet. The "transaction" is going on a month old now.

Cancel and send his partial payment back? Leave him a neutral? Or no feedback?

Is he a newbie?

I'd send him his money back, tell him the transaction is void since he did not fulfill his end of the sale, and file my NPB & FVF's and leave him a NEG for not following through. A deadbeat is a deadbeat.

ExecutiveGirl,

He has 17 positives, no negs or neutrals.

At the very least he still deserves a Neutral.. there is just no excuse for not paying - especially when you emailed him several times and gave him a month to pay.

The date was 12-23, with X-mas rush have a little patience, he does have all positives plus we are only talking about pennies here, give the guy a break, he sent the higher amount so must have good intentions. We cannot control the mail system.

OK, one thumbs-down and four thumbs-up. Any other opinions?

I have to agree with Lorrkenn25's stuttering. The mail was heck this season. My real-life job just received a parcel yesterday that was mailed by a customer on 12/05. He only lives 70 miles away and has been to our office twice in the meantime.

Another point is that the buyer's already out $9.00, why should he lie to you about sending the rest? As you said, it's only $6.95, why make it a big issue? If you post a neg, he may do the same for you. It's not worth it for this amount of money.

Cash the check!! If you never hear from him again you made $9.00, but have a feeling the rest will show, some are just slower than others, if we were all perfect it would be a terrible world to live in.

If you cash the check and send nothing, the words Mail Fraud come to mind.

Either give him a little more time to pay, the mail has been screwed up, or send the check back mark it VOID and send it so it needs a signature. This is to protect yourself.

I myself wouldn't get into a war for the $6.95, it isn't worth the aggrevation.

You never know what is happening on the other end. It is when you don't hear anything that they really did have lightning strike or a death in the family.
Void and send it back - leave a nuetral like "partial pay returned, tried, unable to contact"

I'd give him just a little more time. I had a high rated bidder who sent me a payment 12-14. It arrived 1-3. Perhaps one more email mentioning that the payment hadn't arrived yet, and that you wanted to be sure things were not lost.

I'd wait a little longer too. At least he's talking to you.
It's when you don't hear from them that you can be sure they've blown you off.
Even if he sent the 2nd payment later than he originally indicated, I wouldn't leave a neutral. I'd just mail his thingee and close the books on it.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I gave the bidder 4 weeks, even though my listing clearly states 14 days.
I sent her one last e-mail saying that by bidding on the item she had also agreed to my TOS. Because these terms were not met, I would be returning her vioded check and relisting the item in 7 days.
This gave her time to mail a new check or doing a PayPal if she still wanted it.
I made sure she understood I would not be posting neg. feedback because WE agreed to end this auction. The low $ wasn't worth ME getting a neg.
I never heard from her, returned the check & relisted the item.
The next time it was listed I sold it for 5x the opening bid.

I wouldn't get too out-of-sorts with this buyer yet. The so-called US Mail may have had a role in the problem. I got a check from a guy who signed it on December 10, Post Office postmarked it on the 11th, and I received it TWO WEEKS later. The buyer is in East Tenn. and I'm in East PA.

Its a small amount give him more time. Keep in mind some bidders are on the wrong side of th bell curve if you know hwat mean. I had a buyer send me cash for 4 auctions he won seperatley when i totaled it up he had sent $40.00 to much.
I wrote up a sheet for the buyer pointed out his mistake and sent him a refund check.
I never heard back from him he didn't leave feedback either

hmm That sounds like the deal I have going on one of my yahoo Auctions right now.

Auction ended 12/26 I sent out the EOA got a super fast reply they were putting a check in the mail.

Last night 1/4 I wrote the buyer letting them know there check never arrived to me yet on the auction that ended 12/26 .

buyer sends back a reply stateing to give it a few more days the check went out on the 12/20 with a bunch of other auctions they won and other sellers are just getting there payments.

Now im confused since the auction started 12/21 and ended 12/26 how did they send my payment six days before they bid on the Item.

so Im fallowing orders wait a few days and email them back if it dont arrive I would be willing to bet it show up monday or tuesday postmarked the 5th .
