I see Yahoo is finally charging insertion fees. Even with the fees, there does not appear to be any FVF, which makes it a better deal than epay.
I'm wondering if the new fee structure at yahoo will get rid of much of the junk currently on the site. Many sellers have said, "If it doesn't sell on ebay, I'll try Yahoo since it is free."
Do you think the new fees will encourage a better quality of items listed and perhaps an increase in bidders to the site?
I closed my old ebay account because I didn't like what ebay had become, but I'm willing to try Yahoo if it means better stuff will be listed.

I think it will make Yahoo better by removing a lot of the junk that has been run over and over again. I am afraid it will make eBay worse because most of that junk will come to eBay.

Considering that:
- The new listing fee is only a nickel less than eBay's.
- Page hits on Yahoo tend to be much fewer than on eBay for comparable items.
- Items often have to be relisted several times before a buyer comes along.
- There is no listing fee refund if a re-listed item sells the second time around.
- The selection of items available to choose from is sure to decline tremendously.
Why would anyone elect to list at Yahoo over eBay?
Do you think the new fees will encourage a better quality of items listed...
Lower valued items are the ones that will be chased out of the site. The items remaining will be higher priced, but that does not necessarily guarantee that they will be of a higher quality- there is a difference between the two.

"I think it will make Yahoo better by removing a lot of the junk that has been run over and over again." - If it didn't work for eBah, why would you think it would work for YooHoo?

YaWho? is out of business. They are another eBay now and that isn't needed. You will see one of the other auction sites build up to where YaWho? is and surpass them. With the sellers go the bidders. And the few sellers who remain with their "high quality" stuff can't compete with eBay with the traffic it has - even though the fees are lower. And if you look, it isn't that much lower.

Which is the better value?
This is a no-brainer. Yoohoo doesn't have a prayer of pulling this one off. They are getting rid of the people that built their auction site in the first place making it what it is today. The people who can't afford or do not desire to pay Ebay listing fees. When these people leave so will many of the bidders, leaving Yahoo autions an empty wasteland....
Many of the sellers with "quality" items will go back to Ebay where they get some value (sales) for their $.... The others who are selling items that do not work with Ebay's fee structure will be off to other free auction sites.
Yahoo is putting the cart before the horse and that never works very well. The need to make traffic and sales to priority. Then, once that is accomplished, they should charge fees...

To answer your question I think eBay is better for the simple reason things actually sell there and I find I am not wasting my time listing. That is where all the buyers are and that is where I preferr to be.If I just want to type I will come here or send an e-mail to my Aunt Gertie.

You think because yahoo charges it will be better you have to be kiding I been selling on yahoo 14 month now and on ebay going into my 9th month I sell the same items on both sites and my sales are up 500x or more already on ebay then on yahoo.
It took me 14 month to sell the same number of items I sell on ebay in about every 3 to 6 days.
on ebay most buyer respond and pay with 24 to 48 hours on ebay.
I will be old grey and dead before I ever collect on 60% of the bids I have had on yahoo.
dead beat ratio even after they made all bidders verify with credit card is still
5 to 1 , for every 6 bids I ever had 5 were dead beats and some that were not I had to wait up to 4 and 1/2 weeks for payments no matter how large or small the bid.
less then 2% of whats listed on yahoo has bids how many of these bids will turn up dead beat how many on auctions with no sale cause reserves not met ???
im not leaveing yahoo How ever Im not runningthe 150 to 200 Item I normally would either not at .20 to .35 when it takes many relists to sell.

For me eBay is better. I start my auctions at $1.00 with no reserve on items that average around $90.00 (yes Virginia there are some real auctions on eBay). There is no way I could list items with a $1.00 minimum and no reserve on Yahoo, the traffic isn't there.

This is like comparing apples & oranges. Not to mention I am SICK TO DEATH of people calling the items on Yahoo Junk! They were entirely different sites with entirely different strengths. Much of the 'junk' that people complain about was actually high quality goods at a reasonable price waiting for the right person to see them.
I never sold 'junk' on yahoo, I simply put items there that didn't warrant a listing fee (or many listing fees) before they were purchased. It is good to have a free site to list these on. (Or even one that charges only a FVF)
So the answer to your question is that no, the listing fees will not make Yahoo a better site. It will probably help out ebay's bottom line as sellers flock back there to get actual traffic for their listing fees and will make another free site what yahoo could have been.

There was a need for both sites. eBay had the higher $$$$ items that warranted a fee. I sold my items there that would pull a fast sale. I sold my other craft items on Yahoo where I could afford to sit and wait for the right buyer to come along. I didn't think either site was better than the other -- but unique in their differences and worked well together. I have been selling for 2 years and saw more and more people using both sites. I was hoping Yahoo would realize this and let us continue to build the site that we all wanted and needed. What we didn't want or need was another eBay. We all know where that is and most of us used it when we needed/wanted to.

Yahoo will die in 30 days. Yahoo will become a wasteland and a Amazon clone. Many of us, including me, will be dragging our sorry butts back to egreed. This is indeed a sad sad time for us Yahooites.

I am still listing on Yahoo until the fees kick in. I have done rather well there--my deadbeat ratio is small.
I think Yahoo is out of their minds to charge fees. If they were cheap enough, maybe. I think they are going to deepsix Yahoo's auctions.
