Auction ends 12/24. I send the high bidder my EOA email.
He responds:
I will mail out a cashiers check tomorrow. Thanks When will it ship?
I tell him it will ship after I receive his payment.
The next day he emails:
Do you accept Paypal?
I tell him I'm sorry, but I do not accept personal checks or Paypal.
7 Days later he responds:
Sorry for the delay.Asked the wife to mail you a money order or cashiers check and thought she sent it out. My mistake. It went out yesterday. You should get it shortly.Thanks.
4 days later (after a 3-day holiday weekend) he emails:
Did you ship it yet?
Again, I tell him I did not yet receive his payment and the item will not ship until I receive his payment.
He responds: you should have gotten it already.cashiers check went out Sat the 30th.???
I told him "Well, no sign of it yet."
He emails me today:
Did you get it today?
I told him NO.
He responds: Are you kidding? It went out Saturday.???
Again, I tell him "I'm not kidding. I did not receive it."
He responds:
I mailed the check myself a week ago. It should have been there by now. Please ship the shirt out. I dont want to have to report you to ebay.
He doesn't want to have to report ME
to ebay?????????? Is this unbelievable or what??????? Report me for what?????
Oh, he's got 14 feedback, all positives so far. The nerve of some of these people!!!

He just responded again!!!!!!!
Threatening you? Power seller? Im very happy for you, but the bottom line is I sent a check for $14.00 dollars a week ago, and you are telling me you didnt receive it. Thats impossible. I will wait one more day to give you the benefit of the doubt, but unless I hear from you that you shipped it, I will make sure to tell my brother in law at ebay about you. I dont enjoy being scammed over a lousy 10 dollar used T shirt.

I wonder if it is the same guy I vented about here on the boards a little while back?
Same MO!
Just tell him threats aren't going to get his shirt sent , but payment will...as soon as you get payment , he will be sent his shirt (but don't tell him where to put the shirt once he gets it!)
Suggest he go to where he bought the money order and do a trace to see if it has been cashed.
PS...is this any indication of what the new century is going to be like?

Aaaah the joys of online selling. At least you don't have to deal with someone like this face to face.
I once had a buyer go bezerk on me (worse than this one) and I wrote, very matter of factly, that I did not appreciate being threatened. That I always treated her professionally and there was no reason for nasty comments, and that if she felt I was not telling the truth, she could feel free to trace the payment because I guaranteed her that it had not been received or cashed. I also cc'd safe harbor. I think something about seeing that eBay was also "in on the loop" can get a lot of people to behave better.
You could write a note explaining the delays of the postal system, but I doubt that would do any good. Some people like to bully sellers, threaten you with negative feedback, reporting to eBay or.... mail fraud!

Amy - I doubt the MO place could trace it yet since it was only sent 3 business days ago! This guy is TOTALLY out of line!
I'm very upset about this and don't know what to do next. I just wrote to ebay to see if they could do something - he is threatening me to ship his item BEFORE I receive his payment or he'll report me to his BROTHER-IN-LAW at ebay. Isn't that extortion??
posted on January 5, 2001 06:42:38 PM
I don't really have any advise on what for you to tell him, other than what's been mentioned, but I do recommend insuring and delivery-confirming that package!
It crossed my mind that there's a chance he never really sent his payment, and that he's hoping to scare you into sending him a freebie. A brother-in-law at eBay? Maybe, but what's the chances?
Either way, he'll have to provide proof that you cashed the check ... otherwise I'd say he doesn't have a leg to stand on!
I'd document every little thing, just in case. And make sure to get proof of shipping if/when his payment does arrive!

If he has a brother-in-law at Ebay, we'd all like to talk to him! Give us his home number, please.
Mail does get lost--ask anyone here. Tell him that he can stop payment on the check if it has been lost in the mail. If it has cleared and you're the one who cashed it (we know that didn't happen)...then, he can take action. But right now he's demanding shipment of an item before it's been paid for. That's both ridiculous and unreasonable. I sense a scam.
The auction ended on Dec. 24th. You've already been patient (congrats on your holiday spirit). I'd give it a couple of days and if no check is received, I'd cancel the sale. AND, even if you do receive the check, WAIT FOR IT TO CLEAR BEFORE SHIPPING. This goes for Cashiers' Checks, too, as they can be cancelled just like a regular check.
Watch your deadlines for claiming credit for the non-paying bid, etc.
Then, put it behind you and move to the next thing. Don't let this guy ruin your whole week.

Execgirl..of course it can't be traced yet...but that is the only way he is going to be able to prove you got the payment! Let the money order company tell him he is going to have to wait a while.

Misscandle: Thanks for the info. I did not know cashier's checks could be cancelled! Geez... is no payment safe to accept anymore??
I'm getting a headache over this one and I can feel my blood boiling! If there's one thing I can't stand, it's being accused of something I didn't do - and being called a liar. This guy is giving the post office 3 days to get his payment to me from FL to NY. Usually that wouldn't be a problem but I know how backed up the PO is. And I TOLD this guy that! So he says he'll give it "one more day"!!

Oh! I thought of something else. It might be a good idea to e-mail him the delivery confirmation number after you ship the package. That way he can track it online and see for himself that it was shipped (and will, hopefully, calm him down).
posted on January 5, 2001 06:53:15 PMamy: Yes, he is a winner alright! I just emailed him and told him to feel FREE to have the check traced to see if it's been cashed.
thedewey: I will do that! Thanks again for the great advice!

And, he responds again:
First off, dont tell me how to act and learn to read your emails by date. All of the emails i sent you previously are chronologically correct. I have better things to do than to try to scam a used tshirt. I just dont like being taken for a ride. I asked my wife to mail a check to you, she forgot, so I went out myself during my lunch and got one. I wasted MY lunch break. Its not about the 14 bucks, its about the priciple. True I have 14 feedback on ebay, but every one of the transactions I made, buying or selling, have been pleasant.Maybe I came across too harsh, but you have to understand that the money I spent is gone either way. If I sent a personal check, I could have seen if you cashed it, but now my hands are tied. So I feel like i am being ripped off, which is an unpleasant feeling.

Perhaps you should ask him for the name of his brother in law at Ebay, so that you can contact him yourself. Have you told him that you have already reported all of this to Ebay? And, please, let us all know the name of the guy.....as someone else said...lot of us would like to talk to that one lol.

Well, the emails were non-stop between us a little while ago, but after my last email to him he has not yet responded.
Yes, I too would LOVE to know who his so-called brother-in-law is at ebay! If I find out I'll let you all know!

Kind of like a deadbeat of mine a few months ago. Claimed she worked for eBay as a support rep. She didn't like my attitude because I sent her an NPB alert. ("Of all the sellers on eBay, you're the worst, yada yada." )
Of course eBay's never heard of her. Then I asked her, was she aware that according to eBay rules, employees must notify sellers via email when placing a bid? Oh, she sent that email; I just didn't get it. Ya'-right!

"I'm very upset about this and don't know what to do next"
I once got really upset over something like this. Then a friend of mine said: "How in the he** do you get mad at somebody over the computer? You don't even know these people."
Kind of puts things in perspective. Yeah, it's irritating, but don't let it get to you. It's too easy to succumb and let stuff like this ruin your day.
posted on January 5, 2001 09:16:58 PMMiracle: I'm sure you know that it's easier said than done! I really do get so upset about things like this. You think this is bad, you should see what happens when I get a NEG! It ruins my whole week. You work so hard to maintain an excellent reputation and to make the customers happy only to have one like this one be totally unreasonable. This guy hasn't answered me back in a couple hours now so I'm beginning to feel better already. Hopefully I'll receive his payment soon so this transaction can just be a memory!
(And then I'll retire this one to my "moron" file!)

Oh I know what youre going through!!
Similiar situation just happened to me- only I received the payment one week after auction in mid-dec, mailed the goods (from Canada). 1 week after ship date the threatening emails start pouring in demanding an immediate refund when the goods don't arrive. Total time: 2 weeks after eoa.
No rational explanantion about customs, the season... blah, blah, will help. I hate nervous bidders and wish they would stay away.

A customer comes into my Mom's video store. Tells the clerk he is the owner's cousin, he has just seen her and she said to stop in and get his free rental. Also, he had talked to me that morning and I told him to see my Mom for his freebie.
The clerk said: That's amazing. You talked to both of them today? Well, that is Mother and sister, they are out of town shopping TOGETHER and I sure as He** don't know you!

Just got today's mail. His payment was NOT there! I'm sure he'll be emailing me to find out if I received it or not. Today was his "one extra day" he was giving me!

Cix: I agree, people like that DESERVE a taste of their own medicine. But I also think people like that aren't "all there" either. Who knows what he would/could do if I get smart with him. I'm already looking at a possible NEG from this guy.

I would just let it go if I were you (But don't mail before you are paid, unless you feel right doing it). If he sent the money, odds are you will get it. Mail in Arkansas and Ohio are running 10-14 days right because of the weather and the holidays.
If he leaves Neg feedback, do not reply to it in a rambling manner. Just say, "You are in my prayers" or something very kind. Then write the same kind remark in his feedback with a Negitive Feedback for him. But you have to decide right now NOT to let him have any more control over you.
Others will see right through his Negitive feedback to you, I'm sure.

Don't ya just love people that seek to blame everyone else.. the line about "My wife forgot to send it..." then jumping to "I wasted MY lunch break".. as if that is your fault? I'd be tempted to tell him to take it up with his wife, who screwed up in the first place! Sheesh!
Reminds me of another situation I had with someone who owed me money. When she said she had sent me a check and I never received it, and I asked her to check with her bank and send another, she got very huffy and said "I can't afford to have checks out all over the place!!!" Duh! If the first check never cleared, and I never received anything, I don't see how that was my fault or my problem, or how she was "out" anything but a stamp!
I told her to put a stop-pay on that other "first" check and send me a new one. Ticked her off too but she eventually sent the money. This was not for an auction, though. It was a refund of a deposit for a puppy in a litter of Shih-tzu's that she SOLD to someone else without a word to me until after the fact, but she claimed her HUSBAND had been the one to sell MY puppy while she was at work. Sounds kinda familiar, huh!?
Sorry to ramble. My point was, I just can't STAND people who blame everyone for their own screwups.

Your check did NOT arrive today. Every day when I get the mail and receive payments, I email all my customers to let them know their payment arrived. When and if your payment arrives, I will email you the day it arrives. So there is no need to email me every single day.
