Does anyone else find it disgusting that AW is currently running an advert featuring a photo of Stalin to advertise "Jobs Online"...... what other mass murderers of our modern times will be used next to sell, perhaps cars? Let them know how you feel by sending them an email.....there is a link down on the front page that states " contact us'......thanks guys! Craig

Yikes! I turned off my AdSubtract to see this. I would also email Jobs Online since they are the ones who came up with this ad.
Very very poor taste indeed.
Edited to add, I just emailed Jobs Online. I'll let the board know if I hear anything back from them.

I used to have a friend from Poland. His parents and grandparents knew of the Stalin & Hitler atrocities firsthand and he of course learned from them.
He told me that Stalin made Hitler look like a choir boy.
We don't want this stuff around here.

I knew that photo looked dictatorish, but I didn't realize it was Stalin. Sheesh!

Good point - I think this is in very poor taste. People really need a history lesson.
Hitler wasn't the only butcher of the 20th century - there are literally dozens. Stalin was guilty of many more millions of his own countrymen deaths than Hilter or any other butcher was. Ask the opinion of any elderly Russian or Ukrainian about Stalin and I'm sure they will tell you a lot.

Uhhh.....
I don't know if you noticed it, but the're not actually praising the guy on the ad.
The first time I saw it, I knew somebody was to start a whine-thread about the ad.
What took you so long?

I tried to send an email to webmaster@jobsonline only to have it returned...... too strange....... also was advised by auctionwatch not to "cross post" the same message within their forums...... c'mon people get with it........dictatorship, censorship, close our eyes = big business......... hmmmmmm!!!!!

Obviously none of you have ever worked for "dictatorial" bosses, which was I believe the point of the ad.
For once I'm saying "Lighten up".

Please add my name to petition to have it removed.
In the meantime, why don't we make lemonade out of a lemon and give valuable history lesson.
When we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it.

In my opinion, Stalin is accepted because generally speaking people are not aware of his doings. What if it was Hitler? Or Charles Manson? Or any other killer? Or what about a KKK member? I wonder how many people had family members destroyed by Stalin.
Yes I do see the "humor" in the ad but what if it was indeed Hitler instead of Stalin?

Stalin was a monster. I admit seeing his picture made me flinch also. Stalin was not a person you'd associate a positive PR campaign with.

Joice ... I recall you or one of the other moderators locked a thread a few months ago due to a discussion about Hitler. At that time I pointed out your Stalin ad. Nothing was done then - not even an acknowledgement from AW that it is in bad taste, and a bit of a double standard considering how you handled the thread.
Personally, I could care less, but it struck me as strange that you would censor a poster yet not yourself for committing the same 'violation' ...

Don't like the Stalin ad. Poor taste, and so would a picture of Manson be. 'Also didn't like the gambling casino ads, roulette wheel especially. And the ads that wouldn't stop flashing until you clicked on them....

I've worked for my share of "fascists" in power ties, but to compare a dictatorial boss with Stalin, even (or perhaps especially) in jest, is poor taste. It is not necessary to speak only to the elderly; plenty of people who were not alive during the worst of his rampages also have reason to remember. Would that all of us did.

This is definitely the last TTT.
HCQ you wrote in this thread:
"For once I'm saying 'Lighten up'."
What if instead of Stalin it was a gay-basher? It is ok for many, many people to have been persecuted and killed by Stalin but don't offend HCQ?
http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=9&thread=14354
I truly empathsize your position however I believe that if I want respect than others need to be respected and honored by me such as the victims of Stalin.
This needs to be considered to be educational. Self awareness. I have no hard feelings toward HCQ and support gay rights. I wasn't nor any member of my family affected by Stalin but I do empathsize with all people oppressed.
If you find my comments to be offending, please hit the ignore button. Thank you.

Lest bobbysoxer (or anyone else here) think no one else is disturbed by this, I stand by my post above.
When I didn't see the ad for a few days, I assumed that the PTB had let the advertisers know it was a problem. Frankly, I can't believe that this ad is back.
About as funny as using Hitler to sell gas appliances or birth control devices. And equally as tasteful and sensitive.
And no, I'm not old enough to remember either of these guys when they were in power. But I'm old enough to have known people who survived both of them.
Please, make this ad go away.
My 2¢.

Boy am I slow. It just occured to me....the advertisers are paying AW to promote Stalin which in turn helps us to have free stuff on our auctions.
