I'm telling you, I've had some real doozies these past few days.
Since my other thread "what would you do"
(http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=310474) I now have 2 more "cases".
Case #1) Auction ends 12/24. On 12/31 I finally receive a response from bidder stating that she has been "bed-ridden" and will send out a money order. Well, no response since then (never letting me know WHEN she mailed payment, etc). My auctions stated payment is required within 10 days. On 1/7 (14 days later) I file a Non-paying bidder alert. After all - that's just a "reminder", right? Bidder emails me this morning:
I received notification from Ebay that you said you had not received my payment. I have copies of all my emails to you as well as your reply. You were aware of me being severly ill and unable to go out for a money order. However, you should have received my money order. I will call this am and track it - I shall expect immediate shipment of my merchandise so I won't be forced to notify Ebay. Please tag your auctions so as not to accept bids from me just in case I fail to notice they are your auctions.
Well, today I received her MO - postmarked 1/5. Had she emailed me to let me know when it was mailed I wouldn't have had to send her a "reminder". I explained to her this morning that it was just a REMINDER but no response yet.
Case #2) I offer 9 different methods of payment. I do not accept personal checks or Paypal. This bidder's total amount due is $14.00. They send me a $20 bill telling me to "send back change - no checks". Well, I do not send CASH through the mail and I'm NOT going to buy a money order because they were too lazy to send me the correct amount. So like it or not, I will have to mail them a check.
Whatever happened to being civil to each other? It is that hard to just "be nice" to someone? What's with all these bidders being so demanding and rude lately?

If it's not the full moon, maybe people are suffering from post Christmas stress syndrome or something...
Or they made a new year's resolution to be mean and nasty...

A few times a year I get a bad bidder. Not often, but sometimes.
The medical excuse one is the most common excuse given to a seller to delay the consequences of being a bad bidder.
If you get the medical excuse in any variation: grandma is dying in the hospital, I was in a car wreck and just got to the computer, my husband had a heart attack and I couldn't cope ... here is what you do.
Plug the bidder's id into Bidder Search, Completed Auctions and click into the auctions to see if the id has been bidding while the buyer was supposedly in the hospital. Ninety-nine percent of the time you will that the id was bidding on other auctions.
Once you make the determination that the person is a deadbeat bidder, notify them that because paypment was not made in a timely manner you are voiding the contract with them, then proceed with the eBay steps to get your auction relisted. Cut your losses right there and move on.
Oh, and be sure to leave the id negative feedback and try to squeeze in the words like "no payment though user id online bidding."

Great idea! I did that and just found out that she was CONSTANTLY bidding on items - 45 things SINCE my auction ended and there was NO time in between where she did not bid. She has been actively bidding all along. I suppose being bed-ridden she could only bid and not pay, huh?

It must be full moon. Every buyer I've had the last few days gives me complete instructions on how to pack the items. Duhh!, do they think I just fell off a turnip truck or what?

"Please tag your auctions so as not to accept bids from me just in case I fail to notice they are your auctions."
That is the funniest thing I ever heard of a bidder asking of a seller!
Just how does she think you would do that? Maybe, "Hey, Deadbeat (insert her full name), get your @ss out of my auction!" in caps in all your auction listings?

kudzurose: LOL, no kidding.
My response to that one?
As far as accepting more bids from you - after the non-communication and your threats do you even think for one minute I would allow you to win one of my auctions? I think not.
I'm telling ya, my tolerance is getting REALLY low......

I always leave a condolance in my negs I give if the excuse was death or whatever.
Example: My deepest sympathy on the death of your mother, but I never received payment.
Think if their mother saw that, and one less excuse they can use for other sellers!
