I'm going to be listing some single magazines, what is the most economical way to ship these so I don't scare off bidders with the new PO increases? Some of the zines are over the one lb 1st class limit, anyone else sell magazines?

We sell the occasional magazine. What we do is kind of tedious. Wish we had a better way. We put the magazine in a plastic bag/slipcover then sandwich it between two slightly larger pieces of carboard, then put it in a tyvek envelope.
I hate packing stuff like that, but an old mag is a collectible and needs to be protected somehow.

Is book rate different from the new Media Mail? It was my understanding if the item had advertisements you couldn't use book rate. I'm confused???

Use "Bound Printed..." to ship...actually cheaper than bookrate...at least it USED to be...take a look at the USPS.gov site, and check the shipping rates and conditions thereof...
I assume full responsibility for my actions, except
the ones that are someone else's fault.

Magazines used to be shipped Bound Printed Matter. There were two rates - Book Rate and Bound Printed Matter. Both were commonly called book rate. I believe there is only one rate now called Media Rate. By the way that is only a domestic rate.

As long as the cardboard is LARGER THAN THE ITEM and STIFF CORRUGATED (I use at least 3 pieces), not flimsy chipboard.
The post office is brutal.
I also collect and I know how things arrive beat up.

bkmunroe - Thank you for that info. I was told the they had been combined. I think the clerks just don't understand all the changes yet.
