Bidder won widget. Bidder won by $1.00 over other bidders (11 total bids). Widget is damaged, damage was described and clearly pictured in auction. Also emailed about damage in EOA. Now bidder says she/he overpaid due to damage. What would you do?

I feel that since I described and pictured the damage, I do not owe refund.

This particular widget would have sold for twice the money if not damaged.

Am I thinking wrong?

Nope, the bidder is the one thinking wrong. Did you remind bidder that the damage was clearly described as well as pictured?

thanks to both of you. Yes, Meya, I emailed that I was sorry they were disappointed but the pics clearly showed the damage and it was described. This will probably be my firts neg, but life goes on.

rarriffle,
Yes, first negs hurt, but not as much when you know you did everything right. Some people just live to torture and provoke.
Don't worry, it won't hurt for long. I don't even think about my neg anymore. Keep your chin up, these things pass.

I have an open return policy. An item can be returned for ANY reason. In your case - I would not have a choice...

A quick note: It may be your first neg, but if you are running lots of auctions they will probably suffer...

A thought to ponder.

No---- if the auction was legit with the damage info in there they bought it as is. It's Ebay not Walmart, anything goes as long as it is described correctly. There will always be people trying to complain. It's the nature of part of this world. A Negative feedback you can refer to the auction # and let people see for themselves you did your part.

Right on, denae, if it would have been something that would have been omitted, and never brought to light, then they may have a case. I just got a neutral from someone who sent a check,(w/shades after only being a member since august, and w/bid retractions) and all of my listings are automatically loaded with my terms that checks are held for 14 days after I receive it, but they thought that I should have automatically known when it cleared their bank, in another state clear across the country from me, and I should have had it their 5 minutes after the check cleared. One of the main reasons why I quit accepting PayPal was people who felt their item should have been in their hands 5 minutes after they paid! (maybe exaggerating a bit, but not really! You'd be surprised at some of the emails I received about that topic!) Hey, if you offer the info straight up, and people choose not to read, then don't sweat it too much, they'll move onto someone/thing else sooner or later. I had someone once who bought a necklace from me, I packed it perfectly, shipped it, it arrived in perfect condition and they wore it. The main part of the thing fell off in the course of their wearing it and it was lost, now mind you it was a few days after they received it, and they wanted me to replace their money! I shipped it, they wore it and then lost it, and I was supposed to be responsible. I don't think so. Stiuck to your guns! Be polite, be sympathetic, use your common sense, but don't be afraid to stand by your terms. You didn't force them to bid, it's not Wal-Mart, most items aren't perfect, but the majority of sellers do a darn good job in representing your items. If you're worried about your current auctions, which you will, it's inevitable, just try to build up some positives, don't hide the neg, offer an explanation to anyone who wants one, and move on. My 2 cents anyways. (I'm a little testy after the neutral.)

I have not heard back from my email. I guess I just have to wait and see.

If anything hurt my auctions this week, they couldn't hurt much. 19 auctions, 3 with bids. Life sucks.

I wouldn't worry about it. You did everything right. The buyer is NOT always right.

If you get a neg, just post your reply explaining that the damage was described and a pic included. Reasonable people will understand and not give it a second thought.

When I see a neg in an otherwise pristine Feedback profile, I chalk it up to an unreasonable buyer.

Well, I finally got another email. She says she will leave neg and notify ebay unless I refund 2/3 of her high bid. This person has 7 feedback.

I have emailed her the actual auction and a message pointing out everything I said and pictured and told her I will not refund.

Here comes my first neg! WAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Have you already left feedback for the buyer?

I hope not. I'd like to know about this kind of post-sale behavior in a potential buyer.

Sure sorry this happened to you.

I think you should stand by your original thought - and NOT refund the money. You were clear in your auction, you were clear in e-mail... and, as long as you described EVERYTHING wrong with it in good enough detail, then it is the buyers problem.

Now, if the picture didn't show all the damage, or you didn't accurately describe all of the damage - then you'd own a bit of the responsibility for the outcome.

But, after you are given a negative - I suggest you return the favor. I don't always believe in 'revenge' feedbacks... but I believe it is warranted if you've been completely honest with this person, and they still neg you.

Also, be sure you make a calm, well written reply to her feedback, on your own file - describing all actions you took to make sure the bidder understood what they were getting.

No, I haven't left feedback yet. I never leave feedback until the transaction is complete.

I informed her/him? in the email that they need to read description fully and look closely at all pictures before bidding at the last minute. I even state in the auction to look closely at all pictures.

They gave me 2 days to reply, they didn't have to wait long.

Well, I heard back quickly that time. Here is the answer copied word for word:

I'm not talking about a nag. If you feel fine about your sell then
you live with that. I am mailing the print out and the purse to the ebay
information investigators

Heh - as if eBay is going to give a crap about his complaints. I guess I better have a look-see at your auction ad, though... I know sometimes it's hard not to be biased when you are examining your own auctions - I'll have to determine if you were pretty forthcoming with your info.

Well - maybe not... looks like you don't use that same user ID at ebay as you do here. Heh - oh well, my theory still stands... eBay isn't going to give a crap about one piddly user's complaints - especially one with only 7 feedbacks.

(Hope you kept your e-mails to the winning bidder fairly sane and 'nice')
