I just discovered ebay will host photos directly--only took them 6 or 7 years. Is there any strong reason to use them or not use them?

Well, for one: considering how often Ebay has outages, short or long, you would be taking a chance...
Second: one needs to first download an ActiveX-operated thingy in order to use Ebay's Photo. It is my understanding that it is best to disable ActiveX to be safer from Viri attacks;

I used eBay's photo hosting for a couple of items when they first offered it. They must add more compression, because the photos were very grainy.
Take a look at some auctions until you find someone using eBay to host their pics. You'll see what I mean.
If you're selling items that need lots of detail in the pics, you won't be happy.

Still, I do have my ActiveX disabled, as recommanded by Symantec. Can't hurt
I do agree with everyone though: the few listings I have come across who used it were not very good quality at all...
