I have a slight problem with one of my recent eBay sales. I sold a copy of a somewhat collectable DVD and advertised it as being new/ and factory sealed. The buyer recieved the item and wrote me complaining that several "teeth" from the hub (mechanism that holds the disc in place) had broken loose. No damage was done to the disc. Am I obligated to do anything about this problem? I would think if the buyer wrote to the DVD company they would provide him with a replacement case (it isn't the standard black color so you can't just buy one for $.50) since it most likely came defective from the factory. The disc was packaged well so I doubt shipping damage was the cause! I offered insurance in my auction listing but my buyer did not specify that they wanted it. What should I do?

since it was factory sealed, there isn't anything you need do beyond suggesting to them to email the company for a new holder.

Well the DVD was unopened and no way of know if there was a problem with the Jewel case 99% of the value of a DVD is the disc its self.
I would say they could get a new case from the Company its self just for writeing or buy one your not responcable for what every the factory defects the factory is.
I think there is little to nothing you can do for the buyer in this situation they could just be fishing to see if they could get a quick return on part of there bid price. http://www.Dman-N-Company.com

I'm tempted to, at best, give them a patial refund (say 50% of my profit, or about $8). Since it is an expensive collector's disc, i feel bad for the buyer but my responsibility has to end somewhere too.

Contact the company directly, explain that you got a damaged case, and ask them for a replacement. Once you get the replacement send it to your bidder.
