I cancelled another bid by a questionable bidder. This fellow had a feedback rating of 24 and at least 6 negatives. The bidder had his feedback secured as "private" and I could not see what the other sellers said. I copied his response to my email explaining that as a policy I do not sell to bidders with such a high negative feedback ratio, especially one where the bidder has blocked the comments in his feedback. Please note in this that this guy says he doesn't even know what bid I cancelled! Yes, and my guess is he won't recall even after I send the eoa notice, at least for a long time. Also note how he says that one seller ["someone"- singular tense] bombarded him with negs. , and then refers "someone else" and to "idiots" doing the same. Yet there were SIX, not two, negs. and he only had a rating of 24. I feel like I dodged another bullet here. Folks, they're out there, bidding on your auctions too.I told the bidder that if the comments were not deserved he had the right to comment and defend himself in his feedback and not appear to be hiding something. See below:
Thank you for taking the time to cancel my bid with no clue what is going on.
My comments are listed as private after someone Bombed me with negative
feedback, and someone else left me negative feedback for my complaint hat I
hadn't recieved my product. Of course, not knowing this, you didn't care to
learn. Trust me, I won't bid on your auctions ever again, and I'll encourage
other people to do the same.
I have been working to repair the damage done to my feedback ratio by a bunch
of idiots. Of course, since you didn't mention WHAT the item was, I have no
idea what I am no longer bidding on.

"Cancelled bidder ticked,I'm relieved..."
Don't be too relieved because, he/she said "I won't bid on your auctions ever again, and I'll encourage other people to do the same." IMO you'd better brace for some auction interference from this one.
I don't have time to monitor bidder feedback, and I'm glad. Unless something changes drastically, I don't plan on it either...

If he actually did receive undeserved negs, then he would have been better served by leaving his feedback public and responding appropriately to it.

I had a feeling that I was dealing with deadbeat/nut case here. Would rather have him cancelled than having to try to get payment out of him, and get a retaliatory neg that no one can see and join the list of "idiots" who dared to criticize.

I would have done just as you did, collegepark. There are too many nice people in the world to deal with to waste time on that kind.
I think I understood what you meant about the EOA notice - what the result would have been IF you had let his bid stand, and he'd been the winner, and I think you are probably right.

You would think that if I had 24 feedbacks and 6 negatives, I would forget about that ID and start a new one. Right ?

I LOVE this board, I learn something new every day. Thanks codasaurus, that's going in my auction right away (you don't mind do you?) because if I had had it in there to BEGIN with, I wouldn't of had to ask the question yesterday!!

If the cancelled bidder doesn't even know which auction got cancelled, how will he know to steer others away from your auctions?
Why send him an EOA notice?
The advice to put notice to buyers with neg feedback in the TOS is well taken. I've seen it in several auctions, but this post has reminded me that I really need to get it in my own TOS.

Heeee's baaaaaaack! I got the following forwarded to me from anther email site this fellow has after I put up a spam block. For the record, I have only cancelled two bids in the last 2+years that I've been selling.
This guy telling safeharbor that I was not following guidelines is ridiculous.I cancelled his bid BEFORE the auction ended and gave him notice. Also, from reading my feedback there's nothing to indicate that I EVER cancelled ANY auction - period!
I forwarded the below email to safeharbor. What do you folks make of it. Nut case? He's apparently trying to stir up some trouble between ebay and me. I'm even more curious now about his "Private" feedback. I'm wondering if this guy isn't perhaps going to go the stalker route, trying to kill my auctions.

Having looked through this users feedback, this person has a long history of
cancelling auctions without following EBay guidelines. I hope action will be
taken. The fact that he has either, A) Blocked my mails or B) Changed Emails
reflects poorly upon him."
