Everyone knows that there is a problem of fake this and fake that being sold on eBay, items that are being represented by sellers as authentic when in fact the items are reproductions or forgeries. Ignorant buyers bid and end up paying significant dollars for something that has no real market value.

One such area on eBay where fakes are being sold as the real thing is the Limoges category.

Two nice fellows who have written a couple of books on Limoges put together a few pages of the fake marks. They sent me the pages. I took a photo and I link my auction pages to the photo in case any of my buyers are interested in knowing what the fake marks are.

Here is the url:

If any of you buy or sell china, you need to know these marks. The fake Limoges is being produced in China, North Vietnam, North Korea and Cambodia. Other fake china is being produced too, like Satsuma and such. The china comes into the US via ship containers and mostly distributed out through auction houses. eBay dealers, shop owners and others go to the auction galleries, the auctioneer says "French Limoges" and the bidding starts. Most of the buyers at the auction houses have no idea that the china is not the real thing. But they buy it and list it on eBay and because they purchased the china at an "auction house" and the auctioneer said "French Limoges" the eBay seller thinks it is the real thing and describes it as such in the eBay listings.

If you buy and sell china, print the photo or save it to your computer.
